You can start the Thus Was the Work Done in Vain quest by interacting with the Old Notes in Minacious Island. You can find it the ruins section of the island's previous version!

In order to get quest, you must first revert the island to its previous version before Mona's Mirage. You can do this by interacting with the Astral Gate found in the island.

| 1 | Use the Astral Gate to teleport to the lake island |
| 2 |  Make you way to the Old Notes location within the island. It's at the bottom of the mountain |
| 3 | Enter the ruined room The gate will lock up here |
| 4 | Light up the 3 torches within the room |
| 5 | Leave a message for Wolfgang |
| 6 | USe the Astral Gate to put back the island to its previous look before Mona's Mirage |
| 7 | Go back to Wolfgang's notes and read them |
| 8 |  Head to the small island to left of Minacious Isle |
| 9 |  Enter the ruins. Continue forward by going through the small opening on the wall |
| 10 |  Continue through the ruins until you get to a room with torches on the floor. You will find the Old Notes there. |
| 11 | Read the Old Notes |
| 12 | Head back to the Old Notes' location in Minacious Isle. This should be the version after Mona's Mirage |
| 13 | Head down the ruins until you get into a room with torches. The gate will lock here |
| 14 | Light up torches to open the gate |
| 15 | Leave a note for Wolfgang |
| 16 | Return now-sunken island and read the etching there |
| 17 | Unlock the path to the top of the ruins in Minacious Island by collecting 3 Starlight Coalescences. |
| 18 | Return to Minacious Island. Go up to the top of the ruins and leave a note and a Sweet Madame |
| 19 | Return to the etching on the small island |
17: Unlock The Path To The Top Of The Ruins
By collecting 3 Starlight Coalescence and using them at the right site will unlock the path to the top of the ruins of Minacious island. There are 8 Starlight Coalescence in total and collecting all of them will handsomely reward you chests.
