What Kind of Character is Citlali?
Citlali is an Off-Field Cryo Support that provides a Shield and Cryo Application in an area around the active character. She's a Natlan character that enters a Nightsoul's Blessing State after using her Skill. She can also gain and consume Nightsoul Points from her abilities and passives. Her summon, Itzpapa requires these points to be able to generate the Cryo field that applies the element to nearby enemies.
Citlali's place in the current meta is very much in the upper half of the best teams because she's Mavuika's ideal partner, and together they make-up the strongest team in terms of damage as of the current version. She's also very versatile and can be paired with other Pyro DPSes that want to trigger Melt, Hydro DPSes that can benefit from Freeze, or Cryo DPSes that need the fourth slot in the team to be filled.
Rate Citlali!
Basics Of Using Citlali
Citlali is an Off-Field Cryo Support that applies Cryo, shreds Hydro and Pyro Elemental Resistance while also providing a Cryo Shield as a small bonus. Her Elemental Skill summons Itzpapa, who will continuously generate a Frostfall Storm that deals AoE Cryo Damage provided Itzpapa maintains its Opal Fire state by having 50 Nightsoul points. Citlali's Elemental Burst calls upon her allies Citlalin and Itzpapa (again), dealing more AoE Cryo Damage and creates Spiritvessel Skulls for up to 3 nearby opponents. These skulls will eventually explode and deal more Cryo Damage.
Citlali Has a Nightsoul's Blessing State
Like all Natlan characters, Citlali has a Nightsoul's Blessing State, which she enters after activating her Elemental Skill. Every Natlan character receives Nightsoul Points after entering the state. Citlali receives 24 Nightsoul Points after using her Skill.
Itzpapa needs 50 Nightsoul points to enter the Opal Fire State in order to create Citlali's signature Frostfall Storms that apply Cryo to enemies in an AoE around the active character. The Frostfall Storms consume up to 8 Nightsoul Points a second, which means you must keep generating points for Citlali to apply Cryo.
Citlali's Elemental Burst Restores Nightsoul Points
Itzpapa wants 50 Nightsoul points to apply Cryo, but Citlali's Elemental Skill only generates 24 on cast. This is why it's important to be able to use her Elemental Burst per rotation, since it also helps her generate more points. The initial cast of Citlali's Burst does AoE Cryo damage while generating 24 points. The Spiritvessel Skulls also not only deal Cryo damage to a maximum of 3 nearby enemies, but also restores 3 Nightsoul Points for every Skull.
Citlali's Passives Help Build More Points
Citlali generates extra Nightsoul Points through her passive abilities. These unlock as she ascends or levels up. Her first passive (unlocked at Ascension 2) grants 16 points every 8 seconds whenever a party member triggers a Frozen or Melt reaction.
Her second passive (unlocked at Ascension 4) restores 4 points each time a Natlan character activates a Nightsoul Burst, which happens when Elemental Damage is dealt by a party that consists of at least 1 Natlan character.
Citlali Is Best with a Pyro or Hydro On-Field DPS
Citlali's Ascension 2 Passive, Mamaloaco's Frigid Rain, allows her to shred enemy Hydro and Pyro Resistance so long as anyone in the party (including herself) trigger a Melt or Freeze reaction. This makes her synergistic with Pyro and Hydro On-Field DPSes, She can still be used with Cryo DPSes like Skirk, but not to the same effectiveness.
Roles & Playstyle of Citlali and Her Strengths and Weakness
Off-Field Support Citlali
Citlali performs at her best in teams that appreciate her wide Cryo application, specifically in Melt or Freeze comps.
Pros and Cons of Off-Field Support Citlali
Pros |
---|
- Easy to play. |
- Provides additional sustain and interruption resistance through her shield. |
- Cryo Application from Itzpapa follows the active character instead of being stationary. |
Cons |
- Her shield isn't strong enough to be the main sustain option. |
- Sometimes her Cryo application can be too slow to maintain consistent Melts, which requires you to wait a bit between attacks. |
- Isn't as good with Cryo carries due to her Ascension 2 passive only shredding Pyro and Hydro RES. |

---|---|
Elemental Mastery | 700~ |
Though Citlali would benefit from offensive stats like CRIT and ATK%, her personal damage is often on the lower end of the priority list. She firstly wants to have enough Energy Recharge to use her Elemental Burst every rotation, then she would appreciate having a good amount of Elemental Mastery so her shield isn't completely paper thin. Her damage scales with Elemental Mastery still, so going for an EM-focused build still benefits her DPS regardless.

Best | ![]() | Get from Limited Banner - Citlali's Signature Weapon and therefor catered to her abilities. - Elemental Mastery secondary stat increases her shield strength and personal damage. - Increases damage of active character so long as they have a shield. |
2nd | ![]() | Get from Limited Banner - Elemental Mastery secondary stat increases her shield strength and personal damage. - Provides Elemental Mastery or a DMG Bonus depending on whether they have the same Elemental Type as Citlali or not. - A viable substitute to Starcaller's Watch but Citlali has better options still. |
3rd | ![]() | Get from Limited Banner - Elemental Mastery secondary stat increases her shield strength and personal damage. - User gains a portion of their EM as ATK, and Citlali does have some attack scalings. - Best at R5, otherwise not any better than her Free-to-Play options, without taking into account her Signature Weapon. - May be better when the On-Field DPS doesn't want the Attack from Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers. |
4th | ![]() | Get From Banners - Energy Recharge secondary stat and more energy from the passive helps Citllai use her Burst every rotation. - Passive also assists the other party members with their own Energy requirements. Citllai needs CRIT Rate to reliably use this. Not as good as Thrilling Tales unless the On-Field DPS doesn't want Attack. |
5th | ![]() | Get From Banners - Elemental Mastery secondary stat increases her shield strength and personal damage. - Passive skill reset doesn't refresh her shield strength. - Good as a placeholder until you get Thrilling Tales or have no other option. |
Citlali's Signature Weapon vastly outperforms other premium options. While the weapons underneath it are usable, often they might not be as good as Citlali's Free-to-Play options, which you'd be better off considering if you don't have Starcaller's Watch.
Free To Play Friendly (F2P Weapons) for Off-Field Support Citlali
Weapon | How to Get Rating | |
---|---|---|
Best F2P | ![]() | Get From Banners or - Provides a decent ATK% buff to the character you swap into. - Best at R5 - Citlali's best weapon option outside of her Signature due to the effect. |
2nd F2P | ![]() | Monstadt Forgeable (Craftable) Weapon - Elemental Mastery secondary stat increases her shield strength and personal DPS. - Good as a placeholder until you get Thrilling Tales or have no other option. |
For Free-to-Play options, Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers is the best in terms of buffing capability. The ATK% boost it provides at R5 to your On-Field DPS after swapping to them is a sizeable amount, which greatly increases Citlali's utility as a support. Thrilling Tales is arguably the best weapon for her following her Signature Weapon, so it's highly recommended over other options. Because its a 3-Star Weapon, you are likely to have copies of it already.
All Weapon ListCitlali Best Artifacts
Citlali prefers Artifact choices that focuses on enhancing her strength as a Support and Buffer, rather than on her own personal DPS. See the recommendations below:
Artifact | Recommendation Details |
---|---|
![]() | ★★★★★ - Citlali's best set, since Natlan characters can provide the full DMG% bonus. - Citali needs to apply Cryo first for the full buff. Note that this set will only boost the characters with the Element Type involved in the reaction triggered. - Only one character can use Cinder City set, since the effect cannot stack. Ideally Citlali will be the main holder of this set on a team. |
![]() ![]() | ★★★★・ - If there are other characters with equipped with Cinder City on the team, Citlali can equip either of these sets since their buffs are still potent. - Petra is better when Citlali is with Xilonen since she can create Crystallize shards that Citlali can pick up. - Tenacity is more general use if Citlali isn't with Xilonen. |
![]() | ★★★・・ - A decent alternative if the above sets are all taken. - The ATK% buff is still nice to have regardless. - Citlali's best team often include better users of Noblesse like Bennett, so this set is lower on the list because of this. |

Focus on Energy Recharge First
Citlali's Elemental Burst is an important part of her basic rotation, especially since it helps her Cryo application and her Nightsoul Point generation. Ideally you want to meet her Energy requirements first, before trying to reach her ideal Elemental Mastery stat for sturdier shields.

- Citlali applies Cryo for Mavuika to trigger Melt, while providing a shield and Fighting Spirit to charge Mavuika's Burst. - Mavuika is the strongest Pyro DPS for Melt currently, and she takes advantage of all the buffs on this team easily. - Bennett provides additional sustain and a generous ATK% buff for Mavuika. - Xilonen shreds Elemental RES, provides more healing for Mavuika and the rest of the team, while also being the fastest Fighting Spirit generator with her Skill into Normal Attack x2 combo. |
Citlali's Cryo application can be overridden by Mavuika's fast Pyro application, especially if you continuous Charged Attacks with Mavuika. To avoid accidentally causing Citlali to be the one triggering Melt, you want to just wait a little bit in between Mavuika's Charged Attacks, giving some room for Citlali to reapply Cryo first.

Basic Team Rotation for Off-Field Support Citlali
Basic Rotation For Off-Field Support Citlalil |
---|
1. Start with supports with longer ability durations. If the DPS requires you to start the rotation with their Skill (like Arlecchino), then feel free to do so. 2. Swap to Citlali then use her Elemental Skill into Burst. 3. Swap to your On-Field DPS to do their full damage combo. 4 Return to step 1. |
Citlali's rotations are very simple and easy to follow. You want to ensure she can use her Skill and Burst at the same time since this gives her around 50 Nightsoul Points, allowing Itzpapa to generate the Cryo storms that apply Cryo to enemies.

Best Cryo Support for Pyro and Hydro On-Field DPSes
Basic Rotation Of Citlali |

1. Start other supports with shorter ability durations and use their Elemental Skills or Bursts. 2. Swap to Citlali then use Elemental Skill into Elemental Burst. 3 .Swap to your On-Field DPS to execute their damage combos .4. Repeat from Step 1. |
You want to deploy Citlali before your On-Field DPS to ensure they make the most out of her buffs. This includes the Pyro and Hydro RES Shred, the Attack boost from Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers (if you have this equipped on her) and the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City Artifact set buff. Letting Citlali use her abilities towards the end of the rotation also helps your On-Field DPS maximize the duration of her Cryo application.
Has a Nightsoul’s Blessing State and Uses Nightsoul Points

▲ The amount of Nightsoul Points is indicated by the special bar beside the character.
Citlali is from Natlan, and characters from Natlan will always have a Nightsoul's Blessing State. This special state is activated differently per character, but they all use a similar resource called Nightsoul Points. Alongside this, when Natlan characters deal Elemental Damage, they trigger a Nightsoul Burst, which causes a white symbol to appear on your screen.
Citlali can gain Nightsoul Points from the following:
Ability | Nightsoul Points Gained |
---|---|
Activate Elemental Skill | 24 Nightsoul Points |
Activate Elemental Burst | 24 Nightsoul Points |
Spiritvessel Skulls from her Elemental Burst | Restores 3 Nightsoul Points per Skull |
(Ascension 4 Passive) Party members including herself trigger Melt or Freeze | 16 Nightsoul Points every 8 seconds |
(Ascension 5 Passive) Natlan characters triggers a Nightsoul Burst | 4 Nightsoul Points |
For Citlali, she needs Nightsoul Points for her summon, Itzpapa, to create Frostfall Storms that deal and apply Cryo DMG to enemies around the active character. This is her main appeal as an Off-Field Cryo Support, especially for Pyro DPSes that want to consistently trigger the Melt reaction.
Elemental Skill Creates a Shield and Applies Cryo in an Area
Itzpapa Abilities | - When you have more than 50 Nightsoul Points, enters the Opal Fire State and generates Frostfall Storms. - Frostfall Storms apply damage every 1s (Applies Cryo every 2s) - Consumes 8 Nightsoul Points every second (until 0) |
---|
Citlali's Elemental Skill summons Itzpapa while also creating a Cryo Shield. Itzpapa creates Frostfall Storms that apply Cryo on enemies in an area, provided you have the right amount of Nightsoul Points as stated above. For some Pyro DPSes with fast attacks, sometimes you need to wait a bit before attacking since Citlali doesn't often apply Cryo quickly enough. This can lead to Citlali triggering the Melt instead, which is not ideal.
Elemental Burst Helps Generate Nightsoul Points
Spiritvessel Skull Abilities | - Placed on enemies on the field after Citlali activates Burst. - Explodes and deals AoE Cryo damage. - Up to a maximum of 3 enemies can be marked with a Skull, Skulls restore 3 Nightsoul points each after exploding. |
---|
Citlali's Elemental Burst summons Izpapa and Citlalin, with the first cast dealing significant Cryo damage. The initial activation also provides Nightsoul Points. Her Elemental Burst also places a Spiritvessel Skull on nearby enemies which will explode and deal AoE Cryo damage. The Skulls provide Nightsoul Points per enemy, making it a good source of points outside of Citlali's Passives.

Not only does it increase her pyro and hydro resistance shred, but it also gives elemental mastery to her shielded allies, which will significantly raise the damage output of both Melt and Vape teams. This constellation is a good stopping point if you want to make your teams that have Citlali perform even better.

A maximum of 40 such points can be gained, and each point Citlali possesses will grant all nearby party members a 1.5% Pyro and Hydro DMG Bonus, and increase the DMG Citlali deals by 2.5%. When Itzpapa leaves the field, or upon using Citlali's Elemental Skill again, all "Cifra of the Secret Law" points she has will be removed. |

Dawnfrost Darkstar (Elemental Skill)
Effect |
---|
Invoking secret pacts passed down by her tribe over the millennia, Citlali deploys an Opal Shield and calls forth Obsidian Tzitzimitl: Itzpapa, a creature that is (reputedly) terrifying beyond compare, dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Cryo DMG. The Opal Shield's DMG absorption scales based on Citlali's Elemental Mastery, and absorbs Cryo DMG with 250% efficiency. When it is deployed, it will cause Citlali to briefly be affected by Cryo. After using this skill, Citlali gains 24 Nightsoul points and enters the Nightsoul's Blessing state. |

When Itzpapa leaves the field, Citlali exits the Nightsoul's Blessing state. |
Itzpapa
Effect |

• Itzpapa will follow the character. • If Citlali has at least 50 Nightsoul points, Itzpapa enters the Opal Fire state and continuously consumes Nightsoul points to whip up a Frostfall Storm that follows the character around and attacks opponents within its AoE, dealing Nightsoul-aligned Cryo DMG. • When Citlali's Nightsoul points are fully depleted, Itzpapa's Opal Fire state also ends. |

When the active character is currently high enough in the air, the following will trigger when switching to Citlali: Citlali will leap up high, and will deploy White Obsidian Tzitzimitl: Citlalin to float in the air. Nightsoul Transmission can be triggered once every 10s by your party. Holding Aiming Mode will cause Citlali to enter the Spiritspeaker state, which will allow her to interact with Nightspirit Graffiti and Nightspirit Sigils, extracting information and power from them. The rules for interacting with these objects follow the same rules as those governing Iktomisaurus interactions. Additionally, holding the jump button will cause Citlali to consume 75 Stamina and leap. In areas within Natlan where Phlogiston mechanics are present, Citlali will prioritize consuming 5 Phlogiston to leap to a height higher still. When in the air, Citlali can Hold her Normal Attack to consume Phlogiston or Stamina and enter Aiming Mode and trigger Charged Attacks. Who Is Citlali?
A Renowned Shaman from Natlan

Citlali is a well-known and highly respected member of the Masters of the Night-Wind. Considered as a "living legend" due to how long she has lived, her expertise and knowledge as a Shaman is unmatched within the tribe.
Rendered Immortal for Reasons Unknown
It was revealed that Citlali has lived a longer life than most. Mavuika, the Pyro Archon, mentions that she has known Citlali for at least 200 years and did not expect her to stay cooped up in her house for so long.
The Revered Granny Itztli

Many of the young generations from the Masters of the Night-Wind revere and fear Citlali, giving her the moniker of "Granny Itztli." Ororon, who Citlali raised herself when he was abandoned by his parents, calls her fondly as Granny.
