Sethos is a 4-star Electro character who wields a Bow in Genshin Impact. His gameplay revolves around flexible DPS options, either through rapid Normal Attacks or powerful Charged Shots, while generating elemental energy via his skill. His Elemental Skill, "Ancient Rite: The Thundering Sands," unleashes AoE Electro damage and helps restore energy when elemental reactions like Aggravate or Electro-Charged are triggered. His Elemental Burst, "Secret Rite: Twilight Shadowpiercer," converts his Normal Attacks into piercing Electro "Dusk Bolts" that pass through enemies and scale with his Elemental Mastery. Lore-wise, Sethos is the leader of the Temple of Silence in Sumeru and was once chosen as a vessel for the deity Hermanubis. Calm, confident, and mysterious, he blends ancient tradition with modern strength to protect the secrets of the desert.

Basics of Using Sethos (Beginner Guide)
Electro DPS that can use Charged Attacks or Normal Attacks for Damage

Sethos is an Electro DPS who can use his Charged Attacks or Normal Attacks to deal damage. Just like most DPS characters, he is reliant on his Elemental Burst for his Normal Attack playstyle but for his Charged Attack style, he only needs a full or almost full Energy bar.
Relies on Elemental Mastery for increasing his Damage
Sethos is a DPS that relies mostly on Elemental Mastery though some ATK is utilized by him as well. This makes him great with Dendro reactions since Elemental Mastery can increase damage dealt by the reactions.
Energy is Important for his Playstyles

▲ Left is Sethos' Passive used for his Charged Attack and Right is the effect of his Elemental Burst.
Both of Sethos' playstyle is reliant on the amount of Energy he has. For his Normal Attack style, he needs his Elemental Burst to infuse his Attacks with Electro. For his Charged Attack playstyle, Sethos can use up to 20 Energy to reduce the charging time of his Aimed Shots.
What is Energy used for? | |
---|---|
Normal Attack Playstyle | - Elemental Burst infuses his Normal Attacks with Electro and deals increased damage based on his Elemental Mastery. - He is unable to use Charged Attacks when his Elemental Burst is active. |
Charged Attack Playstyle | - Aim charging is reduced by 0.285s based on Sethos' current Energy amount. - Charging can be reduced to a minimum of 0.3s and a maximum of 20 Energy is counted. - Shooting the reduced Charged Attack on Level 2 consumes the Energy counted while a Level 1 shot consumes only 50% of it. |
Use Elemental Skill to Regenerate Energy

Sethos' Elemental Skill allows him to gain 12 Energy and generate Energy Particles for his Elemental Burst or Charged Attacks. It has a prerequisite of triggering an Electro reaction to do its Energy regen.
Roles & Playstyle Of Sethos and Its Strengths and Weakness
Normal Attack DPS Sethos
Sethos' easiest to play role is as a Normal Attack DPS. He's able to gain Energy from his Elemental Skill, allowing him to somewhat maintain the uptime of his Elemental Burst. With the right setup, he can deal powerful and fast attacks.
Pros and Cons of Normal Attack DPS Sethos
Pros |
---|
- Only needs his Elemental Burst to be levelled up. |
- Easier to play compared to his Charged Attack DPS style since there's no need to aim. |
- A 3-star weapon is one of his best weapons to use since he does not entirely scale on attack and utilizes his Elemental Mastery to increase his Normal Attacks' damage. |
Cons |
- Needs a 2nd Electro character to funnel Energy for him since he has a low Particle generation. |
- Similar to Bow DPS characters, he has trouble dealing with multiple enemies and is better at single target. |
Charged Attack DPS Sethos
Sethos' 2nd playstyle is as a Charged Attack DPS. While he doesn't use his Elemental Burst at all in this role, he still needs nearly maxed Energy since his Passive allows him to reduce the charging time of his Charged Attack based on his Energy level. He can deal powerful oneshot damage with Aggravate.
Pros and Cons of Charged Attack DPS Sethos
Pros |
---|
- Only needs his Normal Attack skill to be levelled up. |
- Great with Aggravate reaction to boost his damage massively. |
Cons |
- Best weapon is a 5 star weapon that is rarely on rate up. |
- If you are bad at aiming, it can be difficult to play this role for Sethos. |
- Still is bad against multiple enemies even with piercing attacks. |

Best | ![]() | Get from Limited Banner - Chasca's Signature Weapon is also great for Sethos since it can massively boost Charged Attack damage. - While it doesn't increase Elemental Mastery, the CRIT Damage buff and Charged Attack damage buff is great for both playstyles that Sethos has. - Requires at least 2 non-Electro characters in the team. |

Astral Vulture's Crimson Plumage is Sethos' best weapon since it has a massive CRIT damage stat and Charged Attack damage buff. Following that is Hunter's Path that buffs CRIT Rate, Elemental Damage and Charged Attack. If you don't have both, Sethos' best F2P weapon can be used.

Best F2P | ![]() | Talk to Vasco in Sumeru - A copy of Slingshot can be obtained from talking to an NPC in Sumeru. It also frequently is obtained from Banners as a 3-star drop. - Only slightly worse than Sethos' Premium BiS but it is able to give CRIT Rate and a damage buff depending how close Sethos is to the enemy. |
2nd (Event) | ![]() | Get from Limited Event - Obtained from Version 4.7's flagship event. - Great for increasing Sethos' Elemental Mastery. It can give a total of 325 Elemental Mastery, allowing you to aim for more CRIT stats instead from his Artifacts. |
3rd (Event) | ![]() | Get from Limited Event - Obtained from Version 3.7's flagship event. - Has a weaker EM buff compared to Cloudforged. Boosts ATK but Sethos' kit prefers EM more. |
4th (Forge) | ![]() | Sumeru Craftable (Forgeable) Weapon - Gives 20 less EM compared to Ibis Piercer. It provides more ATK than it. - Has an effect for dealing extra damage to a nearby enemy once the EM buff expires or when Sethos is switched out while the buff is active. |
Slingshot has comparable performance to most of Sethos' Premium weapons aside from Astral Vulture and Hunter's Path. The next best F2P weapons for Sethos is the two event weapons and the Sumeru craftable weapon. The other three weapons boost his Elemental Mastery and allows you to use different Artifact sets if you want to boost his CRIT stats instead.
All Weapon ListSethos Best Artifacts
As a character that prefers Elemental Mastery, Sethos' best set is Wanderer's Troupe because it is able to increase Charged Attack damage along with boosting his Elemental Mastery. Other sets you can use are the ones that can boost his Charged Attack damage and Elemental Mastery. See the recommendations below:
Artifact | Recommendation Details |
---|---|
![]() | ★★★★★ - Best set for boosting both Elemental Mastery and Charged Attack damage. - Easily gained from doing bosses and world bosses. |
![]() | ★★★★ ・ - Has similar performance to Wanderer's Troupe but not recommended to farm for. Use only if you have existing pieces and will use Normal Attack playstyle. - Charged Attack buff is great for both playstyles while only Normal Attack playstyle can benefit from the ATK speed buff. |
![]() | ★★★★ ・ - Great for boosting Elemental Mastery. - Since it has no damage bonus buffs, using a weapon with damage bonus would work better than an EM weapon. |
![]() ![]() | ★★★ ・ ・ - Good 2-pc set effects if you are still farming for Sethos' full set. - Thundering Fury or Marechaussee Hunter are good 2-pc sets for Damage Bonus buff. |

For sub-stats, it's best to prioritize CRIT stats and Energy Recharge. Energy Recharge is to ensure the consistency of Sethos being able to use his Elemental Burst or have enough Energy to buff his attack in Charged Attack playstyle. But another Electro character who can funnel Energy to Sethos could be enough, lowering the priority for Energy Recharge.

Team Rotation of Sethos and Combos
Sethos Team Rotation for Normal Attack Playstyle
Normal Attack Playstyle Rotation for Sethos |
---|
1. Activate support abilities. 2. (If Sethos is at Constellation 6) Use Charged Attack. Otherwise, use his Elemental Skill then Elemental Burst 3. Use Normal Attacks and Dash or Jump cancels until Elemental Burst expires. 4. Use Elemental Skill to gain Energy and generate Particles. |
Sethos' basic rotation for his Normal Attack playstyle is similar to Burst-reliant DPS characters. Animation cancels can be used during his Elemental Burst so that he can deal more damage within its duration.
Optimal Combo for Normal Attack Playstyle Sethos
Recommended Combo |
---|
(If C6) Charged Attack → Elemental Skill → Elemental Burst → Normal Attack Combo: [Normal Attack x2 → Dash/Jump Cancel] x 4~5 → Elemental Skill |
Doing his Normal Attack Combo 4 times is the baseline for Sethos. You can use more Normal Attacks after that but if you have supports with a shorter buff duration, 4 times is fine.
Basic Sethos Team Rotation for Charged Attack Playstyle
Basic Charged Attack Playstyle for Sethos |
---|
1. Activate support abilities. 2. Use a Charged Attack to gain Scorching Sandshade to buff his next Charged Attacks. 3. Use Elemental Skill to gain Energy to shorten the charging time for his Charged Attacks. 4. Use Charged Attacks to deal damage. |
Sethos' Charged Attack playstyle is simple in how it should be executed but aiming at fast moving enemies can make it difficult to execute in time especially since Sethos' Scorching Sandshade buff has a short duration of 5s after a Charged Attack was used. This buff is canceled after 4 buffed Charged Attacks are used and can only be gained again after 15 seconds.
Optimal Combo for Charged Attack Playstyle Sethos
Recommended Combo |
---|
Charged Attack x1 (if C6, do two Charged Attacks) → Elemental Skill → Charged Attack x2~3 → (Optional) Elemental Skill for Energy. |
Sethos' optimal combo for Charged Attack playstyle has no need for animation cancels since his Charging time is fast enough as long as he has enough Energy. C6 will change his combo a bit, with his 3rd Charged Attack after his first Skill usage not being buffed. You can choose to skip the 3rd Charged Attack and use his Skill instead for a faster rotation.
Elemental Skill, Burst and Abilities Guide for Sethos
How To Use Sethos?
An Electro Dps With Two Playstyles

Sethos is an On-Field DPS that can use two types of playstyles. The first is a Normal Attack playstyle where he uses his Elemental Burst to infuse his Normal Attacks with Electro while making him unable to use Charged Attacks. The second playstyle uses Charged Attacks with fast charging time that consumes his Energy.
Use Elemental Burst For Normal Attack Playstyle
A similar character with this playstyle of spamming Normal Attacks is Yoimiya. For Sethos, his Elemental Burst is what infuses his Normal Attacks with Electro, allowing him to deal laser-like rapid attacks that can pierce through enemies.
Use Charged Attacks For Charged Attack Playstyle

The Charged Attack playstyle for Sethos allows him to use Level 2 Charged Attacks similar to other Charged Attack Bow DPS. His Passive allows him to speed up the charging time, making him consume up to 20 Energy once the sped up Charged Attack is shot.
Effect Of Black Kite's Enigma |
---|
- Per 1 Energy of Setos, decrease the charged attack of Sethos by -0.285 seconds. └Max of 20 energy is tallied. (shortens it from 6 sec→0.3 sec) - Once you shoot the second level Charged Attack energy will be drained. - If it is the 1st level aimed shot, only 50% of the count. |
Elemental Skill Gives Energy
When Sethos triggers an Elemental Reaction with his Elemental Skill, he will gain 12 Energy. Along with the Energy orbs generated, he can gain enough Energy for one sped up Charged Attack. This Skill is a melee attack and he needs to be near the enemy to trigger a reaction.
Both Playstyles Deal Charged Attack Damage and has increased Damage based on EM
In both playstyles, while they differ from how the Attack appear, Sethos still deals Charged Attack damage in both. This makes his weapon of choice in both playstyles similar if not the same. For example, Slingshot is not great for his Charged Attack playstyle while for his Normal Attack playstyle, it works great.
Should You Pull for Sethos's Constellation Or Best Weapon?
Sethos' Constellations are Good to Have
Constellation Priority |
---|
C2 > C5 > C6 |
C2 is a Good Stopping Point
Like any on-field DPS, Sethos' constellations serve to enhance his personal damage. C2 is ideal since he easily gets an additional 30% electro damage bonus from it, while C5 and C6 allows him to reach his full potential as a DPS character. He will still perform fairly well at C0, so while a higher constellation level on Sethos is good to have, it's not really necessary.
