Varesa is a 5-star Electro character that wields a Catalyst in Genshin Impact. She functions as an on-field, main DPS that plays around her "Nightsoul Bar" and Nightsoul-aligned Plunging Attacks. By using a Charged attack and her Elemental Skill, "Riding the Night-Rainbow", Varesa can fill her Nightsoul Bar and enter her enhanced state, "Fiery Passion" to deliver a larger, more powerful Plunging Attack. Stat Goals For On-Field DPS Varesa

Like most On-Field DPSes that utilize their Elemental Bursts, you'll first want to ensure you can hit Varesa's ideal Energy Recharge stat in order to comfortably use her special Elemental Burst twice in a rotation.

It's highly recommended to pair her with Iansan or at the very least Ororon for this purpose. You can then move to giving her offensive stats like CRIT and ATK% after ensuring her ER is sufficient enough.

Getting the EM buff might force you to reset combat if you find yourself struggling to clear certain endgame modes. - Best at R5.

While Vivid Notions is a significant boost (at least 25%) to Varesa's damage potential, you can still clear endgame content with the other alternatives due to her strong baseline performance anyway, assuming you're using her best team. Varesa can equip any catalyst with a CRIT secondary stat that can be used as a stat-stick, but all of them ultimately pale in comparison to the above.

Energy Recharge Is Still Important

Despite her special Elemental Burst costing less Energy, Varesa still wants to have some Energy Recharge (ER) sub-stats so she can reliably use two special Bursts within her main combo, and also why she prefers having an Electro teammate to generate extra Electro particles for her. This makes it so that you won't invest too much rolls into ER, allowing you to allocate some to offensive stats such as CRIT and ATK%.

- Varesa greatly benefits from Chevreuse's RES shred and ATK% buff in an Overload team. - Chevreuse requires only Electro and Pyro characters in the team in order to activate her important RES shred passive. - Durin contributes more Electro and Pyro RES shred, Off-field Pyro application, and his personal DPS. - Iansan is Varesa's most synergistic Electro teammate, providing a conditional ATK% buff that Varesa can easily maintain, as well as some healing that, when paired with Chevreuse's healing, can be enough to act as the primary sustain for this team.

Varesa's strongest team in terms of damage potential is Overload with Chevreuse and Iansan, ideally where both of them have their C6 active, especially for Chevreuse. Durin in his Confirmation of Purity form is the best Off-Field Pyro applicator, but he can also be replaced by Mavuika or even Pyro Traveler.

Basic Team Rotation for On-Field DPS Varesa

Varesa's combo and rotations may look complex on paper, but in practice the combo translates into a smooth and comfortable gameplay loop that's easy to grasp. The only real problem is the enemy tracking with her Skill dash can be a little frustrating against highly mobile enemies or in multi-target scenarios, but it's nothing you can't work around.

Executing the combo above correctly will have Varesa entering her Fiery Passion state after her first Charged Attack into Plunge, before exiting it once you use her special Elemental Burst.

Basics Of Using Varesa

Varesa is an Electro On-Field DPS whose extremely mobile playstyle involves dashes and Plunging Attacks. She has several unique kit features that contribute to her unique gameplay: one being how the Nightsoul mechanic of all Natlan-based characters is integrated into her abilities, and the fact that her Elemental Burst has special low Energy cost, no cooldown version.

Nightsoul Point Mechanics

Varesa is a character from Natlan, and like the rest of the Natlan cast, she also relies on the use of Nightsoul points that fill up her Nightsoul bar. All characters from Natlan have unique ways of utilizing this mechanic. In Varesa's case, she enters the Fiery Passion state once her Nightsoul bar is completely filled.

Charged Attack Causes Her to Plunge

Varesa's Charged Attack causes her to leap upwards instead of being a regular elemental attack. This lets you use her Plunged Attack immediately after, which contributes to her Nightsoul Bar.

Enter Fiery Passion State with Skill

Varesa's Skill causes her to dash forward into an enemy, filling her Nightsoul Bar halfway. Her next Normal Attack becomes an automatic Charged Attack, allowing her to plunge right after, which will fill her Nightsoul Bar all the way.

A full Nightsoul Bar allows Varesa to enter the Fiery Passion state, which enables a second usage of her Skill with increased damage. Varesa will then exit Fiery Passion after running out of Nightsoul points. Note that you first need to use a Plunging Attack in order to actually activate the state.

Hold Skill Can Be Used for Travel

If not used for her special Elemental Burst, you can hold Varesa's Skill so she enters her Sudden Onslaught state instead, causing her to dash rapidly in any given direction, consuming her accumulated Nightsoul points in the process. Varesa will keep dashing so long as she has Nightsoul points or Phlogiston when you're in Natlan.

Elemental Burst Has Two Versions

Her Elemental Burst essentially has two versions. The first version is the regular Burst that needs the full Energy Cost to activate, filling her Nightsoul bar and letting her enter the Fiery Passion state.

The second version, her special Elemental Burst, has a lower Energy cost and no cooldown, and is the most common choice due to its fast animation and superior DPS output. Varesa is able to use the second version while her Fiery Passion state is active for a brief amount of time.

Hold: Enters Nightsoul’s Blessing and switches to Sudden Onrush mode, which consumes Nightsoul points to dash forward continuously. - Using the Skill grants 20 Nightsoul points. - Elemental Skill has 2 charges. - After the Skill, Varesa gains interruption resistance, and her next Normal Attack becomes a free Charged Attack that consumes no Stamina. Nightsoul’s Blessing: Varesa - Skill has 2 charges. Entering Fiery Passion grants 1 extra Tap charge and increases Skill DMG. - Ends when Nightsoul points are depleted. Fiery Passion: Outside this state, Plunging Attacks generate Nightsoul points. - Enter this state at max Nightsoul points or after using Burst. - Normal Attacks, Skill, and Burst gain ▲ unique buffs. - Can use a special Burst shortly after a Plunging Attack. - Lasts up to 15s, ending when Nightsoul points run out or after leaving combat.

Her Skill has two normal charges, and every time she enters the Fiery Passion state, she will gain 1 charge of the tap version of her Skill. This free charge can also be used to do the normal Charged into Plunging combo, and will get the enhanced subsequent Fiery Passion buffs for these attacks as stated in her Normal Attack ability.

Since she has two normal Skill charges, she's designed to repeat her Charged into Plunge attack combo twice per rotation.

(Normal Version): After use, her Nightsoul points are fully restored and she enters Fiery Passion. - After exiting the Fiery Passion state with a Plunge Attack, Varesa goes into Apex Drive where she'll briefly be able to use her special Elemental Burst. Volcano Kablam: - Her special Burst. Only usable after consuming all her Nightsoul Points using her Plunge Attack. - Ignores cooldown and consumes less Energy. - Triggers Thunderous Tornado Eruption, a powerful Plunging Attack that deals Nightsoul-aligned AoE Electro DMG (counts as Plunging Attack DMG) and ends Apex Drive. - Apex Drive also ends when Varesa uses her Elemental Skill.

Varesa enters the Fiery Passion state after you fill her Nightsoul bar, which usually happens after the first time you use her Skill and then Plunge combo. As stated, she gets 1 free usage of the Tap version of her Skill while the state is active, which increases the damage of the Charged and Plunging Attack that you do after. Doing this combo right depletes her Nightsoul Bar and ends Fiery Passion. Once you exit the state, she goes into Apex Drive where her special Elemental Burst will become briefly usable.

Because her special Burst is the best in terms of DPS efficiency, you'll want to ensure to exit Fiery Passion by plunging after you use the free Skill charge. This is to avoid accidentally triggering her normal Elemental Burst.

Passives Scale With ATK%

The Hero Twice-Returned!	When a nearby party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, Varesa's ATK increases by 35% for 12s. Max 2 stacks. Each stack's duration is counted independently.

Both of Varesa's passives help increase her damage output and evidently make her appreciate ATK% buffers and Natlan teammates, which Iansan perfectly meets the conditions for. This doesn't mean Varesa isn't viable for use without her, but the synergy between them is inherently strong and often worth going out of your way to ensure, even if it's just C0 Iansan.

Skill Can Be Used for Exploration

Holding Varesa's Skill activates her Sudden Onrush state, where she will continuously use her Nightsoul Points to rapidly dash in any direction you input. After you use up all her Nightsoul Points, Sudden Onrush will start consuming stored up Phlogiston when you're in Natlan.

This dash functions similarly to the Tatankasaur ability when indwelt, so you can use her to explore and solve puzzles in Atocpan, and even to traverse over any liquid surface. Sudden Onrush also allows her to remain undamaged by liquid Phlogiston.

Should You Pull for Varesa's Constellation Or Best Weapon?

Her weapon is a good starting point if you want to further increase Varesa's performance due the large amount of Crit DMG it provides. It also synergizes well with the new plunging set, Long Night's Oath. Her weapon provides about the same damage increase of having both C1 and C2, but it costs less to guarantee her weapon.

Recommendation if You Have Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds
Vivid Notions or C1 + C2

If you are short on funds and have Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds or any of the recommended alternative atalysts with a Crit substat, you can skip pulling for her weapon now and allocate your pulls elsewhere, or consider getting her early constellations. Note that Vivid Notions will still outperform Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds.

C2 is a Good Stopping Point

Her C2 is a good stopping point if you'd like to increase Varesa's DMG but do not have enough pulls to go all the way to C6, since these constellations offer a decent increase to her performance while opening up an entirely new playstyle, with an added bonus of further improving her exploration abilities.
