Varesa is a 5-star Electro character that wields a Catalyst in Genshin Impact. She functions as an on-field, main DPS that plays around her "Nightsoul Bar" and Nightsoul-aligned Plunging Attacks. By using a Charged attack and her Elemental Skill, "Riding the Night-Rainbow", Varesa can fill her Nightsoul Bar and enter her enhanced state, "Fiery Passion" to deliver a larger, more powerful Plunging Attack. Lore-wise, Varesa is a ravenous competitive eater that enjoys daily bouts of exercise. During her youth, she aspired to become a hero and is always cautious about using her strength and abilities to do the right thing.

Varesa is an
Varesa in her highest DPS team, Overload, sits among the top meta teams, but less so without. While she can make use of different teammate combos, whether she can contest with the likes of Mavuika or Nefer largely depends on having her best-in-slot supports at max constellations.

Roles & Playstyle Of Varesa and Her Strengths and Weaknesses
Electro On-Field Plunging DPS
Varesa is a capable On-Field Plunging DPS with strong AoE Electro attacks. She wants to enter her Fiery Passion state by making use of her Plunging Attacks to max out her Nightsoul points, which will also enable her special Elemental Burst.
Pros and Cons of DPS Varesa
| Pros |
|---|
| - Generally smooth gameplay with an intuitive main combo. |
| - Overall AoE allows her to be flexible into most endgame content. |
| - Has a lot of increased interruption resistance baked into her abilities. |
| Cons |
| - Skill dashing can have strange enemy tracking at times, which can be annoying if fighting a highly mobile enemy that quickly changes position. |
| - One of the top meta DPSes when you have her best-in-slot supports, but only above average otherwise. |
| - Main combo makes use of regular Charged Attacks. This can be clunky to use in practice due to the long wind-up animation, but is recommended in order to get the most DPS. |
Best Build for Varesa
Varesa builds off of offensive stats like other On-Field DPSes. See below for recommendations:

Stat Goals For On-Field DPS Varesa
| Energy Recharge | 130-150%~ with Electro Nightsoul teammate |
|---|---|
| Crit Rate | 80%-90%~ |
| Crit DMG | 160%-200%~ |
Like most On-Field DPSes that utilize their Elemental Bursts, you'll first want to ensure you can hit Varesa's ideal Energy Recharge stat in order to comfortably use her special Elemental Burst twice in a rotation.
It's highly recommended to pair her with Iansan or at the very least Ororon for this purpose. You can then move to giving her offensive stats like CRIT and ATK% after ensuring her ER is sufficient enough.

Varesa can make use of most DPS catalysts, but has clear preferences. See below for the recommendations:
Premium Weapons for On-Field DPS Varesa
| Weapon | How to Get Rating | |
|---|---|---|
| Best | Vivid Notions | Get from Limited Banner - Varesa's Signature Weapon that was tailor-made to fit her kit. - Naturally complements her abilities since the passive requires you to consistently use Plunging Attacks. - Provides a lot of CRIT DMG through the secondary stat and passive, which Varesa can easily take trigger and maintain. - The difference in DPS between this weapon vs other options is pretty significant, but not so much that Varesa won't be good without it. |
| 2nd | Kagura's Verity | Get from Limited Banner - CRIT DMG secondary stat allows Varesa to reach an ideal CRIT ratio. - Varesa can stack the passive easily, which requires you to use Skill three times. - The Elemental DMG Bonus buff is something she can make use of, while the Skill DMG buff is nice to have despite a majority of her DMG being Plunging. |
| 3rd | Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds | Get from Weapon or Standard Banner - CRIT Rate secondary stat can make it easier for you to reach a balanced CRIT Ratio on Varesa. - Passive gives Elemental DMG bonus that stacks up over time while in combat. - Ensure you aren't overcapping on CRIT Rate if you use this alongside the Obsidian Codex set that also gives CRIT Rate. |
| 4th | The Widsith | Get from Banners - CRIT DMG secondary stat that lets Varesa reach an ideal CRIT Rate to CRIT DMG ratio. - The passive has an element of chance to it where a character gains a random buff for about 10 seconds after you swap into them, with a 30 second cooldown. - Varesa can only make use of the ATK% and Elemental DMG Bonus buffs, so the performance of this weapon drops greatly in the event you get the Elemental Mastery buff. - The cooldown is pretty long. Getting the EM buff might force you to reset combat if you find yourself struggling to clear certain endgame modes. - Best at R5. |
While Vivid Notions is a significant boost (at least 25%) to Varesa's damage potential, you can still clear endgame content with the other alternatives due to her strong baseline performance anyway, assuming you're using her best team. Varesa can equip any catalyst with a CRIT secondary stat that can be used as a stat-stick, but all of them ultimately pale in comparison to the above.
Free To Play Friendly (F2P Weapons) for On-Field DPS Varesa
| Weapon | How to Get Rating | |
|---|---|---|
| Best F2P | Flowing Purity | Fontaine Forgeable (Craftable) Weapon - ATK secondary stat is still fine since Varesa scales with ATK%. - Bond of Life mechanic in the passive requires a healer. |
| 2nd | Frostbearer | Frostbearing Tree Level 10 Reward - ATK secondary stat is higher than Flowing Purity, but the passive is objectively worse since Varesa doens't really spam Normal or even Charged Attacks. - You can use this as a stop-gap if you're incredibly new to the game and can't easily access Flowing Purity. |
For Free-to-Play options, Flowing Purity stands out as the only real viable option due to the ATK% secondary stat and Elemental DMG% bonus buff from the passive. Frostbearer is an early-game option if you can't readily craft Flowing Purity, and should be replaced once you've secured a better weapon for Varesa.
All Weapon ListVaresa Best Artifacts
Varesa has several options regarding her artifacts, with each one edging out depending on your sub-stats. See the recommendations below:
| Artifact | Recommendation Details |
|---|---|
Long Night's Oath | ★★★★★ - A dedicated plunging set that increases Plunging Attack DMG. Varesa can easily get max stacks just by doing her regular rotation. - This set results in the highest damage potential for Varesa, but the difference in performance between it and Obsidian Codex are marginal, so it may be best to choose based on how efficient the domain is for you to farm or which set has better sub-stats instead. └ Long Night's is best farmed if you have Xiao or Skirk. Obsidian Codex is better if you have any other Natlan DPS. |
Obsidian Codex | ★★★★・ - An exclusive Natlan character only set since the 2-piece buff increases DMG dealt after triggering a Nightsoul Burst, while the 4-piece buff gives a substantial amount of CRIT Rate after consuming Nightsoul points. - Remember to manage your CRIT Rate rolls with this set, especially with a CRIT Rate secondary stat weapon in order to avoid overcapping. └ You want to be at 60% maximum CRIT Rate unbuffed in order to get 100% with the passive active. |
Marechaussee Hunter | ★★★・・ - Another set that gives out free CRIT Rate, with the condition being the equipping character has to have their HP fluctuate constantly, which is only possible for Varesa if she's paired with Furina. - While the CRIT is appreciated, this set locks Varesa to Furina teams, which isn't even her best team in terms of DPS. |

Energy Recharge Is Still Important
Despite her special Elemental Burst costing less Energy, Varesa still wants to have some Energy Recharge (ER) sub-stats so she can reliably use two special Bursts within her main combo, and also why she prefers having an Electro teammate to generate extra Electro particles for her. This makes it so that you won't invest too much rolls into ER, allowing you to allocate some to offensive stats such as CRIT and ATK%.

Varesa | Chevreuse | Durin | Iansan |
| Details | |||
| - Varesa greatly benefits from Chevreuse's RES shred and ATK% buff in an Overload team. - Chevreuse requires only Electro and Pyro characters in the team in order to activate her important RES shred passive. - Durin contributes more Electro and Pyro RES shred, Off-field Pyro application, and his personal DPS. - Iansan is Varesa's most synergistic Electro teammate, providing a conditional ATK% buff that Varesa can easily maintain, as well as some healing that, when paired with Chevreuse's healing, can be enough to act as the primary sustain for this team. | |||
Varesa's strongest team in terms of damage potential is Overload with Chevreuse and Iansan, ideally where both of them have their C6 active, especially for Chevreuse. Durin in his Confirmation of Purity form is the best Off-Field Pyro applicator, but he can also be replaced by Mavuika or even Pyro Traveler.

Team Rotation of Varesa and Combos
Basic Team Rotation for On-Field DPS Varesa
| Basic Rotation For On-Field DPS Varesa |
|---|
| 1.Start with the supports and deploy their abilities. Order the support usage by doing abilities with longer abilities first before moving to the shorter ones. 2. Switch to Varesa. Use her Skill, then Plunge after being launched into the air. Repeat this one more time after until you see her special Elemental Burst charged up. 3. Use her Special Burst once you see it become available. It shouldn't play a full length animation if you did it right. 4. Do steps 3 to 4 one more time. 5. While remaining on Varesa, you can do Charged Attack into Plunge (x2), followed by another Skill into plunge. 6. Repeat from step 1. |
Varesa's combo and rotations may look complex on paper, but in practice the combo translates into a smooth and comfortable gameplay loop that's easy to grasp. The only real problem is the enemy tracking with her Skill dash can be a little frustrating against highly mobile enemies or in multi-target scenarios, but it's nothing you can't work around.
Varesa Combo in Notation
| [ Skill > Charged Attack into Plunge > Skill > Charged Attack into Plunge > Special Elemental Burst ] x2 > (Charged Attack into Plunge) x2 > Skill > Charged Attack into Plunge |
Executing the combo above correctly will have Varesa entering her Fiery Passion state after her first Charged Attack into Plunge, before exiting it once you use her special Elemental Burst.
Basics Of Using Varesa

Varesa is an Electro
Nightsoul Point Mechanics
Varesa is a character from Natlan, and like the rest of the Natlan cast, she also relies on the use of Nightsoul points that fill up her Nightsoul bar. All characters from Natlan have unique ways of utilizing this mechanic. In Varesa's case, she enters the Fiery Passion state once her Nightsoul bar is completely filled.
Charged Attack Causes Her to Plunge
Varesa's Charged Attack causes her to leap upwards instead of being a regular elemental attack. This lets you use her Plunged Attack immediately after, which contributes to her Nightsoul Bar.
Enter Fiery Passion State with Skill

Varesa's Skill causes her to dash forward into an enemy, filling her Nightsoul Bar halfway. Her next Normal Attack becomes an automatic Charged Attack, allowing her to plunge right after, which will fill her Nightsoul Bar all the way.
A full Nightsoul Bar allows Varesa to enter the Fiery Passion state, which enables a second usage of her Skill with increased damage. Varesa will then exit Fiery Passion after running out of Nightsoul points. Note that you first need to use a Plunging Attack in order to actually activate the state.
Hold Skill Can Be Used for Travel
If not used for her special Elemental Burst, you can hold Varesa's Skill so she enters her Sudden Onslaught state instead, causing her to dash rapidly in any given direction, consuming her accumulated Nightsoul points in the process. Varesa will keep dashing so long as she has Nightsoul points or Phlogiston when you're in Natlan.
Elemental Burst Has Two Versions

Her Elemental Burst essentially has two versions. The first version is the regular Burst that needs the full Energy Cost to activate, filling her Nightsoul bar and letting her enter the Fiery Passion state.
The second version, her special Elemental Burst, has a lower Energy cost and no cooldown, and is the most common choice due to its fast animation and superior DPS output. Varesa is able to use the second version while her Fiery Passion state is active for a brief amount of time.
Note! | Varesa's main combo will center around managing her Nightsoul points to maintain the Fiery Passion state. Jump to her combos here. |
|---|
Passive Encourages Other Natlan Teammates
Varesa gains an ATK boost whenever another teammate triggers a Nightsoul Burst, which makes it almost mandatory to pair her with her synergistic Natlan supports like Iansan or Mavuika.
Elemental Skill, Burst and Abilities Guide for Varesa
How To Use Varesa's Skills & Passives
Plunge Attack Based On-Field Electro DPS
| Basic Rotation Of Varesa |
|---|
| 1. Start the rotation with the supports. Deploy the abilities with longer durations first before shorter ones. 2. Switch to Varesa. Start with her Elemental Skill, then follow-it up with a plunge. Do this one more time. 3. Use her special Elemental Burst. 4. Repeat steps 2 to 3 one more time before finishing it off with Charged Attack into plunge (x2). 5. Repeat from step 1. |
Varesa's combo may seem overwhelming at first, but her abilities seamlessly flow into each other with ease, making it very intuitive once you start learning how to do it.
Charged Attack Transitions Into a Plunge
| Icon | Charged Attack Summary |
|---|---|
By the Horns | Charged Attack: Uses Stamina to headbutt enemies, dealing Nightsoul-aligned Electro DMG and launching herself into the air. ▼ Fiery Passion (State) - Enhances all Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks. └ Charged Attack: Stronger Nightsoul-aligned Electro slam that still launches her into the air. └ Plunging Attack: Consumes all Nightsoul points to deliver a powerful Nightsoul-aligned AoE Electro plunge. |
Varesa's Charged Attack launches her upwards, giving you ease of access to her Plunging Attack. Her regular Charged and Plunging Attacks will mostly be used to restore Nightsoul Points to fill her Nightsoul Bar, which activates her Fiery Passion state.
Generate Nightsoul Points Through Skill and Plunges
| Icon | Elemental Skill Summary |
|---|---|
Riding the Night-Rainbow | Tap: Performs a quick forward rush. Hold: Enters Nightsoul’s Blessing and switches to Sudden Onrush mode, which consumes Nightsoul points to dash forward continuously. - Using the Skill grants 20 Nightsoul points. - Elemental Skill has 2 charges. - After the Skill, Varesa gains interruption resistance, and her next Normal Attack becomes a free Charged Attack that consumes no Stamina. Nightsoul’s Blessing: Varesa - Skill has 2 charges. Entering Fiery Passion grants 1 extra Tap charge and increases Skill DMG. - Ends when Nightsoul points are depleted. Fiery Passion: Outside this state, Plunging Attacks generate Nightsoul points. - Enter this state at max Nightsoul points or after using Burst. - Normal Attacks, Skill, and Burst gain ▲ unique buffs. - Can use a special Burst shortly after a Plunging Attack. - Lasts up to 15s, ending when Nightsoul points run out or after leaving combat. |
Her Skill has two normal charges, and every time she enters the Fiery Passion state, she will gain 1 charge of the tap version of her Skill. This free charge can also be used to do the normal Charged into Plunging combo, and will get the enhanced subsequent Fiery Passion buffs for these attacks as stated in her Normal Attack ability.
Since she has two normal Skill charges, she's designed to repeat her Charged into Plunge attack combo twice per rotation.
Elemental Burst Has a Special Version
| Icon | Elemental Burst Summary |
|---|---|
Guardian Vent! | (Normal Version): After use, her Nightsoul points are fully restored and she enters Fiery Passion. - After exiting the Fiery Passion state with a Plunge Attack, Varesa goes into Apex Drive where she'll briefly be able to use her special Elemental Burst. Volcano Kablam: - Her special Burst. Only usable after consuming all her Nightsoul Points using her Plunge Attack. - Ignores cooldown and consumes less Energy. - Triggers Thunderous Tornado Eruption, a powerful Plunging Attack that deals Nightsoul-aligned AoE Electro DMG (counts as Plunging Attack DMG) and ends Apex Drive. - Apex Drive also ends when Varesa uses her Elemental Skill. |
Varesa enters the Fiery Passion state after you fill her Nightsoul bar, which usually happens after the first time you use her Skill and then Plunge combo. As stated, she gets 1 free usage of the Tap version of her Skill while the state is active, which increases the damage of the Charged and Plunging Attack that you do after. Doing this combo right depletes her Nightsoul Bar and ends Fiery Passion. Once you exit the state, she goes into Apex Drive where her special Elemental Burst will become briefly usable.
Because her special Burst is the best in terms of DPS efficiency, you'll want to ensure to exit Fiery Passion by plunging after you use the free Skill charge. This is to avoid accidentally triggering her normal Elemental Burst.
Passives Scale With ATK%
| Icon | Passive Summary |
|---|---|
Tag-Team Triple Jump! | - After using Skill, Varesa gains Rainbow Crash for 5s. - While active, Plunging Attacks increase ground impact DMG by 50% of ATK. - If in Fiery Passion, the ground impact DMG increase is 180% of ATK instead. - Rainbow Crash ends after a ground impact hits an opponent or when the duration expires. |
The Hero Twice-Returned! | When a nearby party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, Varesa's ATK increases by 35% for 12s. Max 2 stacks. Each stack's duration is counted independently. |
Both of Varesa's passives help increase her damage output and evidently make her appreciate ATK% buffers and Natlan teammates, which Iansan perfectly meets the conditions for. This doesn't mean Varesa isn't viable for use without her, but the synergy between them is inherently strong and often worth going out of your way to ensure, even if it's just C0 Iansan.
Skill Can Be Used for Exploration
Holding Varesa's Skill activates her Sudden Onrush state, where she will continuously use her Nightsoul Points to rapidly dash in any direction you input. After you use up all her Nightsoul Points, Sudden Onrush will start consuming stored up Phlogiston when you're in Natlan.
This dash functions similarly to the Tatankasaur ability when indwelt, so you can use her to explore and solve puzzles in Atocpan, and even to traverse over any liquid surface. Sudden Onrush also allows her to remain undamaged by liquid Phlogiston.
Should You Pull for Varesa's Constellation Or Best Weapon?
Prioritze Vivid Notions Over Constellations
| Signature VS Constellation |
|---|
Vivid Notions > C1 + C2 |
Her weapon is a good starting point if you want to further increase Varesa's performance due the large amount of Crit DMG it provides. It also synergizes well with the new plunging set, Long Night's Oath. Her weapon provides about the same damage increase of having both C1 and C2, but it costs less to guarantee her weapon.
| Recommendation if You Have Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds |
|---|
Vivid Notions or C1 + C2 |
If you are short on funds and have Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds or any of the recommended alternative atalysts with a Crit substat, you can skip pulling for her weapon now and allocate your pulls elsewhere, or consider getting her early constellations. Note that Vivid Notions will still outperform Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds.
C2 is a Good Stopping Point
Her C2 is a good stopping point if you'd like to increase Varesa's DMG but do not have enough pulls to go all the way to C6, since these constellations offer a decent increase to her performance while opening up an entirely new playstyle, with an added bonus of further improving her exploration abilities.

Riding The Night-Rainbow (Elemental Skill)
| Effect |
|---|
| With footwork swift as lightning and fierce as thunder, Varesa displays the true spirit of lucha libre, rushing forward a certain distance and dealing Nightsoul-aligned Electro DMG to opponents in her path. After using this Skill, Varesa gains 20 Nightsoul points and gains the Follow-Up Strike effect: Varesa has increased interruption resistance during this time, and upon pressing her Normal Attack, she will quickly unleash a Charged Attack that does not consume Stamina. Follow-Up Strike will be canceled after Varesa uses a Charged Attack. She will use different techniques based on whether the skill is Tapped or Held. |

Nightsoul's Blessing: Varesa

Fiery Passion

She will enter Fiery Passion when she reaches maximum Nightsoul points via this method, or when she uses her Elemental Burst Guardian Vent! ・While in the Fiery Passion state, her Normal Attacks, Elemental Skill, and Elemental Burst will gain unique buffs. Guardian Vent! (Elemental Burst)
| Effect |
|---|
| Leaps into the air before using the momentum of the drop to unleash a powerful flying kick, dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Electro DMG to opponents — just like those heroes of justice in woven scrolls for kids! After using this Skill, Varesa's Nightsoul points will be restored to maximum and she will enter the Fiery Passion state. In the Fiery Passion state, Varesa's Elemental Burst will deal a greater amount of Nightsoul-aligned AoE Electro DMG. Additionally, she will briefly activate Apex Drive after using a Plunging Attack while in her Fiery Passion state. |
Apex Drive
| Effect |
|---|
| Increases Varesa's interruption resistance. While affected by Apex Drive, Varesa can ignore her Elemental Burst CD and consume less Energy to use her special Elemental Burst, Guardian Vent: Volcano Kablam: This causes her to use the especially powerful Plunging Attack, the Thunderous Tornado Eruption, which deals Nightsoul-aligned AoE Electro DMG upon landing before causing her to exit Apex Drive. This DMG is considered Plunging Attack DMG. Varesa will exit Apex Drive after using her Elemental Skill. |

While in an area with Phlogiston Mechanics within Natlan, Nightsoul Transmission: Varesa can be used. When the current active character is sprinting or in movement modes caused by certain Talents, or at a certain height in the air, switching to Varesa will trigger the following: Varesa enters the Nightsoul's Blessing state, switches to Sudden Onrush mode, and obtains 20 Nightsoul points. Nightsoul Transmission can be triggered once every 10s by your own party.
