What Are Sub-DPS / Off-Field Characters
Characters With Skills That Stay On Field
Off-Field Characters, often referred to as Sub-DPS, are able to deal damage with their kits even when they are not the active character in the party. They provide another source of damage while the Main DPS is on the field.
Skills Don't Expire When Switched Out
To be a Sub-DPS, characters must have a Burst, Skill, or both that will stay on the field even when they are switched out. This is the main requirement to be a Sub-DPS character.
Provide On-Field Damage / Reactions
A Sub-DPS does not necessarily need to deal damage, but can provide it by setting up or doing reactions. For example, Kuki Shinobu does not deal high damage, but since she can easily do Hyperbloom, she's considered a high-tier Sub-DPS.
Usually Quickswapped
With how a Sub-DPS works, they are usually only quickswapped, meaning they are only brought out to use their skill, then switched out right after. This also comes with a rotation to ensure the right timing for their Skill and Burst.
Not All Characters Can Be Sub-DPS
There are some characters whose whole kit requires being on field, thus making them impossible to be a Sub-DPS character.
Some Characters Can Be Both Main DPS & Sub-DPS
There are some characters that are meant to be Main DPS but can be Sub-DPS. However, this will require changing their builds to fit whichever role they will be doing.
