General Build for Survivability
Active Skills | |
---|---|
This is general-purpose equipment for Swordsmen / Gunners that emphasizes survivability especially for the first time hunting this monster. It has 29 Thunder Resistance, and the addition of Divine Blessing and Elemental Absorption makes it more durable. There is one 3-slot, one 2-slot, and two 1-slots left, so you can add the Sheath Jewel 1 required for Long Sword, or further increase the durability with Defense Jewel 1.

Combat Strategies
Use Defensive Skills If Inexperienced
Arch-tempered Rey Dau is significantly stronger than the regular Tempered Rey Dau. If it's your first time facing it or you're not yet familiar with the fight, be sure to activate defensive skills.
Fully Upgrade Your Armor to Maximum Level
Arch-tempered Rey Dau's attacks are extremely powerful, and even a small hit can significantly reduce your health. Make sure to fully upgrade your armor to the maximum level to help reduce damage taken.
Durability Skills Are Recommended for Meal
Ration | Additional Ingredients | Finishing Touches |
---|---|---|
![]() | ![]() ![]() | ![]() |
By being mindful of the ingredients used for your Meal, you can reduce the risk of being knocked out. Consider using Sild Garlic for Guts to evade a single fatal blow or Kunafa Cheese for a Defense Boost. If you're taking more damage, Eastern Honey, which increases recovery, can also be helpful.
Kunafa Cuisine | Sild Cuisine |

Lucky Meal Insurance Meal Defender Meal (Hi) Random Meal Buff x2 | Capture Pro Meal Insurance Meal Moxie Meal (Hi) Random Meal Buff x2 |
If you're using a Meal Voucher to activate skills, the 'Defender Meal (Hi)' from Windward Plains, which reduces damage taken with Defense Boost, is a good choice. Additionally, the 'Moxie Meal (Hi)' from Ruins of Wyveria is excellent, as it has a low activation threshold for Guts, making it easier to trigger.
Use the Environment to Your Advantage
In the initial area (Area 17) of Arch-tempered Rey Dau, there is a spear-shaped falling boulder. If you aim it correctly, it can deal significant damage, so try targeting it. Depending on your positioning, it's possible to hit the falling boulder from the start of the fight.
Use Luring Pod to Guide Rey Dau to Boulder

If you want to fight in areas with more Falling Boulder environmental features, it is technically viable to use a Luring Pod to lure Rey Dau to Area 5 or Area 7. However, since these spots are quite far from the starting location, consider whether the setup time justifies the potential tactical advantage.
Flash Pod Can Be Used up to 3 Times

▲From the 4th Flash Pod onward, only brief stagger effects occur. Since stagger remained effective for up to 30 uses, it may not be entirely nullified.
Flash Pods are effective against Arch-tempered Rey Dau but can only bring it down from the air up to three times, with a greatly reduced flash duration.
Most Attacks Trigger a Thunder Explosion
Attacks where it scrapes its blue wings on the ground or uses thunder discharges now trigger a delayed thunder follow-up (small explosion) at the point of impact. Be aware that even attacks you could previously block with 'Guard' can now deal damage through the added explosion in the Arch-tempered variant.
Watch Out for the New Vertical Thunder Burst
A new move has been added where it lowers its head directly downward and unleashes a vertical thunder burst. This attack has a deceptively large blast radius from the point of impact and deals heavy damage, so be sure to guard or quickly create distance.
Fully Upgrade Your Armor to Maximum Level
After the downward thunder burst, Rey Dau will enter a flying state, and there's a possibility of follow-up attacks like aerial strike. Once you've dealt with the downward thunder burst, it's a good opportunity to use a Flash Pod, so take your shot.
Only Pitfall Traps Are Effective
Like the regular Rey Dau, Arch-tempered Rey Dau is immune to Shock Traps. Use a Pitfall Trap when capturing.
Focus Strike at Weakness Exposure
After the large thunder strike attack, the weak spot is exposed on the horns. Landing a Focus Strike will trigger a special down, providing a window to land a high-damage attack.
