What's important in using the Hunting Horn in Monster Hunter Wilds is knowing how to perform music. By playing melodies, you can strengthen yourself and your allies, so learn it thoroughly.

Step 1: Stock the Notes you Want to Play

▲Stock Attack Up (S) With White-Red-White

Check the melody guide display in the top-right corner of the screen first to stock your notes. The △ button, ◯ button, and △ + ◯ button have their own corresponding note, so pressing buttons in order allows you to stock them. The stocked notes will be shown in the top-left corner of the screen.

Step 2: Perform by Pressing R2

To activate Performance Beat, press R2 when a shockwave is released from the Hunting Horn during Perform. This slight red glow of the Hunting Horn signals that Performance Beat was successful.

Constantly Buff Allies with Melody Effects

The best feature of the Hunting Horn is its ability to strengthen both the user and allies through performances. You can gain various effects such as increased damage, reduced damage taken, and more. Always fight with the melody effects active, and perform again immediately when they wear off to refresh them.

Place Echo Bubbles & Fight within the Area

How to Place Echo Bubbles

When placing Echo Bubbles, you'll receive special effects while staying within the range based on the type of Hunting Horn you're equipped with. While Performing with an Echo Bubble placed, reverb attacks will be emitted from the echo bubble, damaging nearby monsters. So fight within the range to maximize its benefits.

Can Stock up to Three (3) Notes While Casting

When setting up Echo Bubbles, quickly press ◯, △, or △+◯ to store up to three Notes. Since you can stock the notes without having to perform an attack corresponding to each note, it's recommended to input the notes while placing the Echo Bubbles.

Special Performance

Special Performance is a technique used to activate unique melody effects that are set for each Hunting Horn. Special Performance remains available until activated once the note is stocked, allowing you to use it at your preferred timing. The Special Performance of the Hunting Horn weapon in the Beta version has "Offset Melody" that enables counterattacks.

Aim for the Head to Stun

Hunting Horn attacks deal blunt damage, so repeatedly hitting the head can stun the enemy, temporarily immobilizing it. Focus on targeting the head to create more opportunities for additional attacks.

Resistance Increases with Repeated Attacks

Monsters develop resistance to stun effects with each successive stun. Since it will be hard to stun them over time, the stun count you can achieve in a single battle depends on how accurate you can land attacks on the monster's head.

Use as Sub-Weapon to Obtain Buff Effects

Equipping the Hunting Horn as a sub weapon allows you to apply buffs like Attack Up before the fight. Consider using the Hunting Horn as a sub weapon if you want to increase your damage of give buffs to the team.

Equip Hunting Horn as Main and Sub Weapon is also good

In the released version, equipping a Hunting Horn as both your Main and Sub Weapon allows you to play and activate buffs that will remain even after switching. As an example, playing an ATK Boost melody with your sub-weapon works even if you switch to your main weapon to use a different melody..

Hunting Horn - Balance Adjustment

Sub-weapon Performance Adjustments Planned

Information Known From 2/12 Early Access
◆ If you are equipped with a Hunting Horn that has the same buff melody effect on both the main and sub, you can maintain the melody effect even after switching weapons by performing the melody on either.
◆ The duration the effect of Perform is shown on the top of the Health gauge in a circle gauge.
Information Known From Community Update
◆ Sub-weapon planned to be adjusted overall.
└OBT only provided Attack Up (S)
└Full version, with Attack Up (L) and extended melody duration, sub-weapon becomes too powerful.
◆ Adjustments are planned, such as removing the status-up effects from notes for other hunters and the extension of melody effect duration when switching weapons.
◆ The melody effect 'Self-Improvement' for increased movement speed is planned to be buffed.

In the Monster Hunter Wilds community update, it was revealed that the above balance adjustments will be made to the Hunting Horn weapon. In OBT, the melody effect only provided Attack Up (S), but in the full version, there's a skill that gives Attack Up (L) and extends melody effect durations, making sub-weapons too powerful.

Melody Effects for Other Hunters and Weapon Switch Adjustments

Adjustments are planned for the status-up effects on nearby Hunter allies through melodies. Additionally, changes will be made, such as the removal of melody effect duration extensions when switching to other weapon types.

Movement Speed Increase from 'Self-Improvement' to be Buffed

The basic melody of the Hunting Horn, 'Self-Improvement' which increases movement speed, is planned to be buffed. While maintaining its value as a support weapon, it is expected to be balanced through these adjustments.

Easy Management of Main and Sub Hunting Horns

If you equip Hunting Horns with the same buffing Melody Effects for both main and sub-weapons, performing the Melody Effects on either will allow them to persist even after switching weapons. This makes it easier to operate with Hunting Horns equipped with both main and sub-weapon.
