Shatter the Veil for Higher Damage

Monster Hunter Wilds Uth Duna

Attacking Uth Duna's protective veil causes damage indicators to turn blue and reduces its power. Focus fire on Uth Duna's veil to break it and suppress the monster's water-based attacks.

Use Nulberry to Counter Waterblight

Uth Duna's attacks can inflict Waterblight, significantly affecting your stamina. Prepare Nulberries to avoid situations where you can't dodge in a pinch.

The Head and Legs Are Unaffected by the Veil

Monster Hunter Wilds Uth Duna's Protective Veil

The veil is a thin, fluttery membrane and does not extend to the head or the tips of the legs. Always focus on breaking the veil, and whenever possible, attack its head in order to break it.

Large Wind-Ups Are Opportunities for Offset Attacks

Some of Uth Duna's moves, like body slams and the spinning bludgeon, deal heavy damage, but their large wind-ups make them easy to counter. While repeatedly using Offset Attacks can be risky, timing them with slight pauses can turn them into a reliable damage source.

Utilize the Rubble in Area 15

In Area 15, there is collapsible rubble near the waterfall that can deal massive damage if it hits. Aim to drop it when Uth Duna is mid-leap or in a vulnerable state.

Hit It With Rubble When It Swims in Area 15

When Uth Duna starts swimming on the water in Area 15, collapse the floating rubble to deal massive damage and cause a prolonged knockdown. There are two breakable points, so stay patient and aim carefully.

Beware of Water Currents During Extreme Weather

In the Scarlet Forest, where Uth Duna appears, abnormal weather can cause water levels to rise in some areas, making movement difficult. If hunting becomes challenging underwater, use Dung Pods to lure it into a shallower area.

Make Use of Slinger Pods From Tempered Wounds

▲ Trigger a stagger by shooting Uth Duna mid-jump to bring it crashing down.

Tempered Monsters drop powerful Slinger Pods when their Tempered Wounds are broken. Against Uth Duna, Slinger Piercing Pods is especially effective for quick burst damage.

How to Fight Uth Duna

1Break the Water Veil
2Retreat When the Veil Regenerates
3Anticipate Consecutive Body Presses
4Be Wary of Fighting in Water
5Use Wedge Beetles to Avoid Currents
6Rely on Emergency Evasion

Break the Water Veil

Breaking Uth Duna's protective water veil creates an opening for Hunters to attack the monster. While veil-less, an Uth Duna takes full damage from all attacks, so utilize this short vulnerability window by landing your most powerful attacks before its defenses regenerate.

Retreat When Veil Regenerates

Whenever Uth Duna redeploys its water veil, it accompanies this move with a deafening roar. Standing close to it while it roars will cause damage. Whenever you notice Uth Duna coiling up, make a hasty retreat before re-engaging once the water veil has been deployed.

Anticipate Consecutive Body Presses

Body PressDiving Press
Hit detection starts when Uth Duna falls.Hit detection starts when Uth Duna rises and lasts until it falls.

Uth Duna will frequently use two consecutive body presses or two consecutive diving presses. After successfully evading the first press, remember to evade the second press as well.

Be Wary of Fighting in Water

Areas with a lot of water allows Uth Duna to generate water currents alongside its attacks which effectively increase the range of every attack. Additionally, in Area 15 there is a lake in which Uth Duna can use a powerful move where it dives into the water before violently breaching the surface to land a devastating diving press.

Block this attack by hiding behind environmental elements or mount your Seikret and put some distance between yourself and Uth Duna.

Use Wedge Beetles to Avoid Currents

Surging water currents can be avoid by using Wedge Beetles or via normal evasion. Since these currents deal damage, we recommend dodging them whenever possible.

Rely on Emergency Evasion

Aggressively approaching an Uth Duna will sometimes cause it to use a sweeping attack or one of its press attacks. Both of these attacks have decent tracking and can follow your Hunter even as you move to dodge. We recommend relying on emergency evasion as the most consistent way to avoid these attacks.
