Charm rewards

You'll receive a Powercharm and/or Armorcharm as a reward for completing the Arena Challenge for the first time. These are the same as the ones from Side Missions, but if you want to grab the Powercharm early, it's worth clearing the Arena first.

Recommended Weapon for Arena Rathian

Gunlance with Sleep and Paralysis is Recommended

The recommended weapon for the Rathian Arena Challenge is the 'Gunlance'. It comes with the 'Sleep Element' and also has 'Mega Barrel Bombs', allowing you to deal massive damage by putting the monster to sleep and setting off bombs. The sub-weapon Gunlance also has 'Paralysis', so after using Sleep, you can stop Rathian's movement again with Paralysis.

The Gunlance doesn't require any complicated combos. As long as you remember how to use 'Wyrmstake Full Blast (or Multi)' and 'Wyvern's Fire', you'll be able to deal good damage. Make sure to master these if you're going in with the Gunlance!

If you're not confident using the Gunlance and one of your main weapons is available, it's best to stick with what you're used to. With a familiar weapon, you likely know how to avoid damage and deal it efficiently, making it easier to achieve faster clear times.

How to Get an A Rank in the Arena Quest: Rathian

  1. Bring a Support Hunter if Playing Solo
  2. Go for a Sneak Attack at the Start
└Wear the Rocksteady Mantle to negate Roar
  3. Use Sleep → Bomb for Major damage
  4. Use a Might Seed if Using Gunlance
  5. When Breath Attack Appears, Use Focus Strike

To get an A Rank in the Arena Quest: Rathian in Monster Hunter Wilds, make sure to bring a Support Hunter if you're playing solo, aim for a Sneak Attack at the start, deal massive damage with Sleep → Bomb, and use Might Seed if you're using Gunlance.

Bring a Support Hunter When Playing Solo

Support in Arena

If you're playing solo, press the △ button on the Equipment Selection screen to bring a Support Hunter (Rosso). Not only will they split the monster's aggro, but they'll also perform supportive actions like Recover Ammo, making the hunt easier.

Go for a Sneak Attack at the Start

Sneak Attack

Once the quest starts, approach Rathian from behind and try to land a Sneak Attack. If you're having trouble sneaking up, try using the Ghillie Mantle. The Ghillie Mantle is available with all Equipment loadouts.

How to Sneak Attack

Negate Roar with Rocksteady Mantle

Both 'Sword & Shield / Hammer' and 'Gunlance' loadouts come with the Rocksteady Mantle. Equip it to negate Rathian's roar after the Sneak Attack, allowing you to continue attacking uninterrupted.

How to Get Rocksteady Mantle

Deal Big Damage with Sleep → Bomb

The 'Sword & Shield / Hammer' and 'Gunlance' loadouts comes with Sleep Element weapons and carry Large Barrel Bombs (or Mega Barrel Bombs for Gunlance). Since the first hit on a sleeping monster deals double damage, take the chance to unload some serious damage. Use Wyvern's Fire to detonate for even more bursts.

Sleep Effect and Multiplyers

Use Might Seed with Gunlance

ItemEffect
Might SeedMight SeedAttack +10 for 3 minutes

The Gunlance loadout includes a Might Seed. It boosts your Attack by +10 for 3 minutes, making it easier to deal higher damage.

Use Focus Strike When Breath Attack Occurs

When Rathian enters or exits a breath attack, you can land a special attack by using Focus Strike on its head (mouth), which is a weak point. Note that the weak point isn't always the same, so be sure to check using Focus Mode during breath attack.
