Monster Hunter Wilds could also be connected to MH4 since they both showcase crossing sand field to get to various villages. The first area shown in Wilds is a desert area, which can act as a connection to MH4.
Characters Could Also Be Related To MH4 & MHW
As will be discussed in more detail below, the appearance of a character that looks like the ace lancer from MH4 and the first rookie in MHW suggest that the timeline of the story may be close.
Story After MHW?

▲ In MHW, a general from the Old World is learning about the slinger
MHW features a possible encounter with the General from the Old World wherein he says he was learning how to use the slinger. This encounter can only be found after defeating Fatalis. This can tie MHW features with the Old World, further connecting MH4 with MHW.
Hunter from MH4 Could Have Retired?
If this is related to MH4, the question of where the MH4 Hunter is comes to mind. If Gemma is the successor to the Commander, where is the MH4 Hunter and are they connected to any of the other characters?
Prologue Suggests Late MH4 Hunter
The prologue of MH4 is said to be narrated by an older Hunter, suggesting that in the world of Monster Hunter Wilds, they may have already retired due to the toll of their hunts. However, in MHW, there was a character speculated to be the MHP2G Hunter, but inconsistencies in the timeline made it unlikely that they were the same person. Therefore, it's also possible that the MH4 Hunter has simply moved on to another place.

Is Alma Related To The Guildmarm?

Gemma has the stuffed animal, while Alma looks very similar to the Guildmarm based on her facial features. It is certain that they are not the same person, but they could be relatives since they resemble each other.
The Ace Lancer Became a Leader?

Although the name has not been revealed, there is a character from Wilds that could be the Ace Lancer. Since he orders the main character to go on a mission, it could be that he has retired as a hunter and now works as a commander.
Similar Voice Actors
The Japanese voice actor for the Ace Lancer is Hiroki Yasumoto. He has a very similar voice to the character that shows up in the trailer, making it even more possible that they're the same character.
Map / Locale Theories & Speculations
Possibly Close to the Location of MH4
Near Cathar Village?

The new map is called Windward Plains. This name may be related to MH4's Cathar Village. Additionally, Monster Hunter Wilds contains many elements that could suggest a connection to MH4, so the locations might be geographically close as well.
May Not Be Related To Forbidden Lands of MH4

Monster Hunter Wilds takes place in the Forbidden Land. In the Monster Hunter series, the forbidden land was where hunters faced Shagaru Magala in MH4. However, the term Forbidden Land could refer to a place where entry is prohibited in general. Therefore, it would be difficult to link the two solely based on this term.
All Maps May Be Connected
One of the features of this title is an overwhelming sense of immersion through a seamless experience with no loading screens. This makes it likely that this title will be fully open world, and given this, it is likely that all maps will be connected.
Windward Plains Has Multiple Biomes

In Windward Plains, the first area the Hunter will explore, there are not only deserts, but also grasslands and rocky areas. Much like the Guiding Lands from Iceborne, different biomes may be located next to each other.
Is an Elder Dragon The Reason for the Forbidden Lands?

The reason for the Forbidden Lands in MH4 was Shagaru Magala. Therefore, it may be that the Forbidden Area in Wilds has another monster that made the region forbidden. The new forbidden area will likely be larger and there are many large monsters there so the reason may be an Elder Dragon.
Monster Predictions
Jhen Mohran

Type | Elder Dragon |
---|
Possibly Linked to the Sandstorms?
In past works, Jhen Moran was a monster that appeared with sandstorms. The sandstorm seen in the trailer could possibly be related to an Elder Dragon like Jhen Moran or Dah'ren Mohran.
Shagaru Magala

Type | Elder Dragon |
---|
The word Forbidden Land mentioned in the trailer, immediately brings to mind Shagaru Magala. In past games, the location where it was hunted was called the Forbidden Land. Additionally, since Shagaru Magala was revived in Sunbreak and its skeleton model exists, its appearance in Monster Hunter Wilds is a strong possibility.
Could there be Multiple 'Forbidden Lands' in Wilds?
In past games, the Forbidden Land was considered part of Sky Tower, where Shagaru Magala resided. In Wilds, since the Hunter is assigned to the 'Forbidden Land Investigation Team', it’s possible that multiple Forbidden Lands exist beyond the Sky Tower.
Nakarkos

Type | Elder Dragon |
---|
Nakarkos, which has two tentacles, resembles the 'black flame' of a mysterious monster. Since its official name is being kept hidden, it is likely of high status, and there may be a connection to Nakarkos, the Elder Dragon and final boss of Monster Hunter XX.
