For best Heavy Bowgun build after HR40 is G. Eternal Palamedes, and it's best to build the armor set around the Arkveld armor. Activate Weakness Exploit Lv5 and Agitator Lv5 to boost Affinity, and with Arkveld's Hunger and Hasten Recovery, you can recover HP that would generally decrease from guard damage.
