Learn the basic controls. Monster Hunter Wilds has a high skill ceiling, so it's important to familiarize yourself with the controls.

We recommend picking a weapon that matches your preferences and playstyle. As the story progresses, you'll find areas where you can practice freely, so take the time to find a weapon that suits your playstyle and familiarize yourself with its controls.

Weapon Tier List

Pick a Secondary Weapon

In Monster Hunter Wilds, you can bring two weapons. In addition to your main weapon, it is important to learn how to use your secondary weapon during battle.

Automatically Move on the Seikret

Call Seikret
(Automatic)

If you set a destination and use the D-pad to ride Seikret, it will automatically guide you there. This feature is helpful when moving to a specific monster or gathering area without worrying about getting lost. Alternatively, you can control Seikret manually with the directional pad.

You Can Pin a Destination Using Your Map

Set Waypoint on Map

You can set a destination from the map screen by placing a pin. Select the icon you want to set as your destination and press the R3 button to set that icon as your destination.

Join a Party to Tackle Difficult Hunts

party

If you find hunting alone challenging, consider forming a party to take on monsters together. Since the game uses a network-based lobby system, it’s essential to familiarize yourself with how to recruit players or join multiplayer sessions。

What to Do When You Can't Win

  1. Review Your Equipment's Skills
  2. Eat Food to Activate Food Skills
  3. Bring Items for Crafting or Hunting
  4. Learn the Monster's Attack Patterns

Review Your Equipment's Skills

Review your equipment skill

Each piece of equipment has a skill attached to it. If you are concerned about survivability, consider activating Defense Boost skills. On the other hand, equipping skills like Attack Boost will enhance your damage output

Eat Food to Activate Food Skills

Eat Food To Activate Food Skills
Portable FoodFixed Effect: Health+50, Stamina+150
Ingredients Effects: Status Up
Additional IngredientsFixed Effect: Effect Duration +20:00
Ingredients Effects: Adds one food skill
Finishing IngredientsFixed Effect: Attribute Resistance +5
Ingredients Effects: Adds one food skill

By eating food, you can activate various skills that enhance your Health and resistance. Although the effects are time-limited, it’s an easy way to gain a temporary boost, so make sure to take advantage of it.

Bring Items for Crafting or Hunting

Bring Items For Synthesis
ItemEffect
Mega PotionGreatly restores Health
Max PotionFully restores Health
Shock TrapA trap that immobilizes a target. Used to capture monsters.
NulberryCures various blights (status effects).

Ensuring you have the right items before starting a hunt gives you an advantage when fighting monsters. Additionally, bringing crafting materials allows you to restock items when you run out, so plan carefully which materials to take on a hunt.

Learn the Monster's Attack Patterns

The most important thing in a hunt is to familiarize yourself with its weaknesses, attack patterns, and phase changes. If you learn the monster's attack patterns, you will be able to predict their next action based on their attack patterns and take less damage. Once you get comfortable with your weapon of choice, you can also pay attention to the monster's movement.
