4Aim For Offset Attacks

Aim for the Head to Stun

The key to using the Hammer in Monster Hunter Wilds is to target the head. As a blunt weapon, repeatedly attacking the head can stun the enemy, temporarily disabling their movements.

Repeated Stunning increases Resistance

Monsters build resistance to stunning with each successive hit. As they become harder to stun, the number of stuns you can achieve in a battle depends on how accurately you target the head.

The damage output of the Mighty Charge attack is very high, so make it the focus of your strategy. Use R2 to charge while moving, and once it's charged to Level 3, aim for the Mighty Charge attack. During situations when the enemy is down or vulnerable, use the △ attack to deal damage, then transition into Mighty Charge for maximum effectiveness.

Dodge With Charged Step While Charging

How to Do
Hold

(Evade)
+

While charging, use the Charged Step to evade. As long as you have stamina, you can use it repeatedly, allowing you to maintain your charge level while dodging attacks.

Aim for Offset Attacks

How to Do
(You can hold down the button to adjust the timing of the attack)

The Hammer's Wild Swing has an offset attack effect. However, the Wild Swing is executed as the third hit in a series of repeated △ presses, and can be a bit tricky to aim for. Once you're comfortable with the controls and have gained some experience using the hammer, try going for an offset attack.

On the Official Release, Teammates will no longer be blasted away with Wild Swing

Wild Swing, at the third hit, is able to blast away teammates or co-hunters during the Beta. This will be adjusted during the official release making them not be blasted as easily.

Hammer - Balance Adjustment

Hammer Upswing Adjusted in the Final Version

Adjustments to the Hammer were mentioned in the community update for Monster Hunter Wilds. It appears that using Upswing from continuous △ hits and Charge Level 2 Combo will no longer knock allies away. However, it can still down friendlies, so exercise caution when hunting with others in multiplayer.
