Remember How to Counter Frenzy

Gore Magala Frenzy
Characteristics of Frenzy
Inflicted- The gauge fills up with damage taken or over time.
- Overcome with a set amount of damage before maxing the gauge.
- If the gauge is blue, it signals recovery.
Recovery- Affinity increases by 15% for a certain period of time.
Onset- Damage taken increases, no natural recovery.
- When hit, the red gauge is not retained.

When facing Gore Magala in Monster Hunter Wilds, be sure to remember the effects of Frenzy Virus and how to handle it. If infected, you can overcome it by dealing a certain amount of damage, which will also strengthen the Hunter. However, if the virus progresses, you'll experience increased damage taken and no red gauge when hit, putting you in a tough spot.

Reduce Infection Gauge with Nulberry

The Frenzy infection gauge can be reduced with Nulberry. If damage accumulates or overcoming it becomes difficult, use Nulberry to delay the onset. Remember, Nulberry has no effect once the infection has fully developed.

Frenzy is Cured by Entering a Tent

Normally, Frenzy won't heal except over time, but entering a tent will fully cure it. If you're knocked out in one hit or find yourself in a tough situation, this method can be a useful way to recover.

Frenzied State Intensifies Attacks

▲ If you're too close, Gore Magala will roar and attack you while you're staggered.

When Gore Magala emits dark mist and lets out a powerful roar, it enters a Frenzied state, boosting its speed and intensifying its attacks. It will also use stronger attack patterns than normal, so be sure to stay vigilant with your evasion.

Frenzied State Cleared by Damage to the Head

Gore Magala's Frenzied state can be canceled by dealing a certain amount of damage to its horned head, causing a long knockdown and ending the Frenzy. While targeting the head in this state is challenging, you can use traps to immobilize it or land a mounted attack's drawn finisher on the head to trigger.

Use Floating Rocks in Area 10

When moving to Area 10, take advantage of the 'floating rubbles' in the area. Position yourself between Gore Magala and the rubbles, then use the Hook Slinger to deal heavy damage.

Trigger Turf War to Deal Damage

▲ Depending on the timing, a sneak attack is also possible.

By triggering a turf war, you can safely attack from behind for a while. Be wary of dash attacks with hitboxes in the rear, and keep up your attacks. If there are nearby monsters, using a Luring Pod to bring them in can also be a smart move.

In Area 17, Collapsing Damage is Powerful

In Area 17, if Gore Magala lands near the Flashflies, the bridge will collapse, allowing you to deal collapse damage and trigger a long knockdown. Be mindful of your positioning in Area 17 and try to lure Gore Magala to the collapse spot.

Tempered Wounds Slinger Destruction is Useful

Destroying the Tempered Wounds will drop a Slinger, which serves as an additional source of damage. It allows you to rack up a satisfying amount of damage in a short time, so be sure to keep this in mind when fighting Tempered Monsters, including Gore Magala.

How to Fight Gore Magala

1Use Hit and Run Tactics
2Dstinguish Between 4 Different Breath Attacks
3Avoid the Wing Launcher
4Beware of the Diving Finisher
5Watch for the Wing Smash
6Anticipate Consecutive Lunges
7Evade the Wing Stomp

Use Hit and Run Tactics

While Frenzied, Hunters attack windows are very small, and Gore Magala will also unleash relentless consecutive attacks. Therefore, avoid using high-commitment and focus on hit-and-run tactics, targeting the head while aiming to remove the Frenzy Virus.

Distinguish Between 4 Different Breath Attacks

Gore Magala uses several different types of breath attacks. A single straight-line breath attack can be avoided simply by dodging to the sides, but there are many special breath attacks, so be sure to telegraph each and dodge accordingly. Additionally, Gore Magala emits high-pitched sounds when using breath attacks, which can also serve as helpful cues.

Triple Breath

When Gore Magala lifts its head in a circular motion, a three-part breath attack will follow: right → left → center. The left and right breaths have a decent tracking effect, so avoid the center while shifting your position to dodge.

Straight-Line Area Explosion

Once black mist rises from the ground, several explosions will then occur. As soon as the mist appears, retreat to the sides.

Sweeping Explosions

When Gore Magala twists its head sideways, it will swing and release a series of three explosions close to its body. The hitbox for this attack is narrow, so you can dodge by either retreating or diving under its wings.

Delayed Explosion

Gore Magala releases a bomb-like breath attack that explodes shortly after impacting the ground. The range is wide, so move towards the rear or fall far back. It can also be fired after a back jump, making it a bit tricky to predict.

Avoid the Wing Launcher

When Gore Magala raises both forearms and scrapes its winged arm into the ground, it will transition into an upward launch attack. This attack has a longer reach in front than it appears, so be sure to evade early to avoid it.

Launch Into Breath

While in the Frenzied state, Gore Magala can transition from a wing launcher attack into a horizontal area explosion breath, among other attacks. Even if you avoid the launch, stay alert for the potential follow-up attacks. After this attack string, there is a brief window where Gore's weak spot is exposed, so if you can land a Focus Strike, it becomes an opportunity for counterattack.

Beware of the Diving Finisher

Gore Magala is not affected by Flash Pods, so when it takes flight, focus on dodging. Once Gore lands, it can transition into a charging attack, so carefully observe its movements. Once it begins to ascend, shift your position to dodge.

Watch for the Wing Smash

When it twists its body while pulling back, Gore will perform a wing smash. The hitbox extends to the outer wing membrane, so dodge by moving toward its inner arm. If you're standing at close range, you can also dodge by diving under the arm.

Anticipate Consecutive Lunges

After a short telegraph of stepping back, Gore will lunge 3 consecutive times. Depending on the distance, this attack can will extend quite far forward, so move large distances to the left or right. It will move from left to right, so once you're more familiar with it, try dodging in a way that lets you slip passed it while remaining near enough to punish once the attack ends.

Evade the Wing Stomp

When it stands up on its hindlegs, it will immediately follow with a double wing stomp. It lifts its body much higher than when it performs a wing smash, so it's easier to distinguish. This attack has a hitbox from close to its body all the way to its wing arms, so retreat far back to avoid the attack completely. You can alternatively attempt a guard or a counterattack.

Tempered Moves and Behavior

3Keep Track of Gore's Position

Tempered Monster with Tempered Wounds

ゴアマガラの歴戦傷

As a Tempered Monster, Gore Magala will appear with Tempered Wounds. These wounds can be destroyed just like normal wounds, making them great targets for attacks. Additionally, destroying these wounds will result in dropping slinger ammo, which may make this hunt easier.

Play Cautiously

▲ If you take the full brunt of the wing launcher, it can reduce your health by 70% even from full health.

The tempered version of Gore Magala has significantly higher attack power compared to the normal version, and all of its attacks can potentially be fatal. If you're struggling with its movements or have concerns about durability, do your best to play cautiously. Alternatively, you could consider strengthening your armor and equipping durability-related skills.

Keep Track of Gore's Position

The Gore Magala’s tempered variant significantly increases its tendency to move behind the Hunter and attack from their blind sides. Gore will usually perform high-damage attacks such as body slams, breath attacks, and wing smashes, so always be sure to keep track of its movements.

Destroy Tempered Wounds 1-by-1

Tempered wounds generally have a high chance of causing a knockdown when destroyed. Gore Magala's tempered injuries are often located in multiple, spaced-out areas, so by destroying them one by one, you can reliably increase the number of knockdowns you can achieve, significantly improving your damage efficiency.
