If you continuously attack the same part, it will eventually become a Wound. These will act as weak spots, increasing the damage the monster takes.

Wounds Guide

You Cannot Wound the Same Part

Wound reward

You can obtain materials by continuously attacking wounds or by destroying the wound with a Focus Strike. After a Wound is destroyed you won't be able to wound the same part so attack a different part of the monster to wound it again.

Take Advantage of Riding/Mounting Monsters

You can mount or ride large monsters by repeatedly landing aerial or jump attacks. Mounting makes it easier to create wounds on the monster.

Use Power Clash & Offset Attacks to Down/Stun the Monster

Power Clash- Occurs when Guarding with specific weapon types

Offset Attack- Occurs with some moves of specific weapon types
- If used continuously, monsters will become resistant to them

Power Clash and Offset Attacks are powerful moves which can stun or down enemies only available to certain weapons. When successfully performed, they create an opportunity to land a big attack, if your weapon can execute these actions.

How to Prepare & What to Do If You Can't Win

Review Your Equipment's Skills

skills

Each piece of equipment has a skill attached to it. If you are concerned about survivability, consider activating Defense Boost skills. On the other hand, equipping skills like Attack Boost will enhance your damage output. If you can't defeat a monster, we recommend crafting and upgrading armor before starting a hunt.

Learn How to Use Your Weapon

Each weapon has its own set of unique moves and combos, so take the time to familiarize yourself with them. Learning a weapon's moveset is integral to maximizing damage output. Doing so will also allow you to better adapt your playstyle or approach depending on the monster's behavior.

Learn the Monster's Attack Patterns

The most important thing in a hunt is to familiarize yourself with the monster's weaknesses, attack patterns and phase changes. If you learn the monsters attack patterns, you will be able to predict their next action based on their attack patterns and take less damage.
