---|---|
Environment Condition | Plenty/Fallow |
Time | Night |
The Sandstar can be found exclusively in Windward Plains, specifically in the desert between Area 11 and Area 16. It only appears at night during Plenty and Fallow. Do note that it can detect and run away from Hunters even if they are wearing the Ghilie Mantle.
Windward Plains Map GuideUse A Nearby Pop-Up Camp

The Sandstar is a rare endemic life with a low chance of spawning even if all its appearance conditions are met. Players might have to roam around the map and adjust the time multiple times to find it. There are three nearby Pop-Up Camps you can use for this so set at least one of them before hunting for the Sandstar.
How To Capture Sandstar
Get Screamer Pod from Baunos Beforehand
Capturing Sandstar requires Screamer Pod. Screamer Pod cam ne obtained from Baunos flying above Sandstar by using Hook Slinger. Make sure to get it before the hunt.
Slinger and Hook Slinger GuideUse Screamer Pod to Stagger, and Use Capture Net
Sandstar can be staggered using Screamer Pod. Use Screamer Pod from distance, Sandstar doesn't run away, and while it is staggered, use Capture Net to catch.
Act Quick as it Only Staggers for 7 Seconds
Sandstar will only stagger for 7 seconds. If you fumble switching to Capture Net, Sandstar will recover from stagger and escape. If it escapes, you have to chase and stagger again to capture.

Cannot Complete Side Mission During Event Quest

Side Mission Samin’s Research Report cannot be completed during Event Quest. If you want to refresh the environment by accepting the Quest, pick Optional Quest or Field Survey.
What to Do if the Sandstar Does Not Appear?
- Fast Travel to other Maps
- Reset Map Information using the Rest feature
- Advance the story to 5-3
- Increase Culling Distance in the settings (PC Only)
You can deal with the Sandstar not appearing in different methods, these being to "Fast travel to another map", "Reset Map information using the Rest feature", "Advance the story to Chapter 5-3" and/or "Increase Culling Distance in the settings". Be especially aware that Resting is disabled during Chapters 5-1 and 5-2, in which case you aren't able to manipulate the in-game weather or time.
Fast Travel to Other Maps
Preparation | Set Up a Pop-Up Camp in the Northwestern part of the Windward Plains, Area 16 Set in-game time Night and Environment to Plenty by Resting at the Camp |
---|---|
Step 1 | Explore the area to search for a Sandstar |
Step 2 | Fast travel to other maps |
Step 3 | Return to the Pop-Up Camp in the Northwestern part of the Windward Plains, Area 16 |
Step 4 | Repeat steps 1 to 3 until a Sandstar is found |
If you still can't find a Sandstar, continue fast travelling to other maps before returning to the same camp. Endemic Life appearances within a Locale should change upon your return due to the loading times when moving maps. Repeat this until you encounter a Sandstar.
Fast Travel GuideReset Map Information Using the Rest Feature

Like the Fast Travelling option, the available Endemic Life on the map will reset when you rest at camp. This method comes with the advantage of also resetting the monsters within the vicinity, so you can also look for possible Field Survey hunts at the same time. Resting, however, requires 300 guilds points to use each time you want to change the weather and time, so it'll only be a feasible option for people with enough points to do so.
Camp Location ListAdvance the Story if Inclemency Persists

While the story is currently at Chapters 5-1 and 5-2, all maps will be affected by a fixed Inclemency weather with Resting becoming unavailable until you clear the mentioned chapters. Since Inclemency prevents you from meeting the spawn conditions for the Sandstar, you will need to continue progressing through the story first. Reaching Chapter 5-3 enables the Rest feature once again, allowing you to continue changing the in-game weather and time.
Chapter 5 WalkthroughIncrease the Render Distance in the Settings (PC Only)

Increasing the "Render Distance" in the Title Screen options is only available for the PC version, but makes it so that any Endemic life will be somewhat easier to find due to being rendered further. This may become more demanding on your PC however.
Best Settings GuideSandstar - Effect and Look

Category | Endemic Life |
---|---|
Obtainable Guild pts | 100 pts |
Feature | Nocturnal desert creatures with pale, luminescent fur that is believed to be the result of the insects they primarily feed on. Highly vigilant, they use their excellent hearing to detect approaching threats and flee, so trying to chase one down is the wrong approach. You'll have a far easier time catching one if you use a sonic bomb to disrupt its hearing. |
