Table of Contents

How to Play Solo

  1. Select Online Single Player from the Lobby selection screen.
  2. Talk to Alma and select Online Single Player.
  3. Stay idle in multiplayer for 30 minutes.
  4. Start the game offline.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, you can play solo by selecting Online Single Player from the lobby selection screen or through the receptionist. Alternatively, if you're in multiplayer mode, you can become solo after being inactive for about 30 minutes, or simply start the game on a PS5 without an internet connection.

Select Online Single Player

If you're looking to play solo in Monster Hunter Wilds, simply select Online Single Player from the lobby screen before starting your hunt.

Talk to Alma and Select Online Single Player

You can also switch to Online Single Player from the Quest Counter. Just talk to Alma, the receptionist at Base Camp, and select Online Single Player from the Change Lobby Screen.

Stay Idle in Multiplayer

Monster Hunter Wilds Disconnect Timer

If you stay inactive for about 30 minutes in multiplayer, the game will automatically switch you to Online Single Player.

Start the Game Offline

You can play in Online Single Player mode by starting the game without an internet connection. If your device isn’t connected to the network or you don’t have an active online subscription on PS5/Xbox, the game will switch to offline mode by default.

Can You Play Offline?

The Game is Playable Offline

Error C1152 TBA TD2J

If you prefer playing Monster Hunter Wilds offline, just start the game while your device is disconnected from the internet. PS5 and Xbox players will enter offline mode by default if they’re not logged in to an online subscription service.

Enjoy the Game Offline

If you start Monster Hunter Wilds offline, you’ll see an Unable to connect to the server notification, but don’t worry, solo play is still fully functional. That said, multiplayer won’t be accessible, so hop online if you want to hunt alongside your friends and other players.

How to Join Multiplayer

Playing Offline Doesn’t Offer Advantages

There’s no particular benefit to playing offline unless you're itching to hunt monsters and you're in an area without an internet connection. If you prefer solo play, simply select Online Single Player when starting the game since there's really no reason to switch offline if you already have a working internet connection.

Differences Between Solo and Multiplayer

  1. You can pause the game
    - You can also take photos using Photo Mode.
  2. There are no other players inside the Base Camp.
  3. You can temporarily play multiplayer by sending an SOS Flare.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, playing solo is different from multiplayer in a few ways. You can pause the game, and the Base Camp is empty, meaning there will be no other players around. But even if you start in Online Single Player, you’re not completely alone, you can still send out an SOS Flare to temporarily invite others for a quick multiplayer hunt session.

You Can Pause the Game

Pause Game

Solo players can pause the game, which will completely stop all action, even in the middle of a fight. It also prevents in-game time from advancing, so if something comes up, you can step away without worrying about missing anything. Multiplayer doesn’t have this feature since it would affect everyone in the session.

You Can Also Take Photos

Photo Mode

Need the perfect screenshot in the heat of battle? Pausing the game lets you freeze everything, open Photo Mode, and capture the moment without any interruptions or danger.

How to Use Photo Mode

No Other Players Inside Base Camp

No Players in Base Camp

It goes without saying that solo play means no other players in Base Camp or anywhere else. In multiplayer, though, you’ll be among a large group of Hunters, perfect for players who enjoy an immersive experience of Monster Hunter Wilds.

Switches to Multiplayer with SOS Flare

Multiplayer Using SOS Flare

Just because you’re playing in Online Single Player doesn’t mean you have to tackle everything solo. With the SOS Flare, you can bring in other players for a short multiplayer session whenever you need assistance on certain quests.
