This guide is about How to Stun in Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) and the Best Weapon Type. It covers MH Wild's stun mechanics, best weapon for stun, cooldown, and resistance.
How to Stun and Tips
Attack the Head With a Stun Weapon
To inflict Stun in Monster Hunter Wilds, attack the monster's head using a weapon capable of building up Stun. Each move from a stun-capable weapon has a set 'Stun Value', and landing those attacks on the head accumulates it. Once the total stun exceeds a certain threshold, the monster will be stunned.
▼List of Weapons That Can Inflict StunBest When Monster Is Downed or Bound
The tip for inflicting Stun is to attack the head when the monster is downed or restrained by Traps or Paralysis. Since monsters won't fight back during these states, it's a great opportunity for stun-capable weapons to build up Stun effectively.
Effective When Combined With Pitfall Traps
Stunning a monster restrained by a Pitfall Trap makes it even more docile than during normal restraint, making it easier to target weak spots. Additionally, the duration of the Pitfall Trap's restraint is extended by the Stun, giving you more time for capturing.
Shoot the Head with Slinger Heavy Blunt Pod
When you hit the head with the Slinger Heavy Blunt Pod, Stun can be inflicted. This pod type is obtainable through part breaks on specific monsters, such as Gypceros.
Breaking Tempered Wounds
Tempered Monsters may drop Slinger Heavy Blunt Pod when their Tempered Wounds are broken. However, since other types of Slinger Ammo, such as Heavy Piercing Pod, can also drop, the ammo type is randomized.
How to Destroy Wounds & EffectDetonate Wyvern Milk Crystals
When you shoot the Wyvern Milk Crystals created by the Guardian Ebony Odogaron with Slinger Thunder Pod, the crystals explode. Hitting the monster with multiple explosions can inflict Stun. Thunder Pod can be obtained by collecting Thundercryst found in Areas 6 and 11 of the Ruins of Wyveria.
Ruins of Wyveria Camp Locations & MapThis Also Works for Zoh Shia Fight
Like the Guardian Ebony, Zoh Shia also generates Wyvern Milk Crystals through its attacks, allowing you to aim for a Stun using Slinger Thunder Pod. Thundercryst, which becomes Slinger Thunder Pod, can be found in two locations within the hunting area, so be sure to pick them up.
Zoh Shia Weakness & How to UnlockEquip the 'Slugger' Skill

If you're having trouble targeting the head or facing monsters that are difficult to stun, consider equipping the weapon skill 'Slugger'. Note that it has no effect on attacks that originally have no Stun value, so be careful.
Slugger Effect & Activatable EquipmentActivate the Weapon Skill 'Punishing Draw'
If you equip the weapon skill 'Punishing Draw', Stun Value is added to the first attack when drawing your weapon. This allows weapons that typically lack stun potential to inflict Stun. Also, the applied Stun value also scales with the Slugger skill.

Stun Mechanics
Effect Shown on Monster's Head

In Monster Hunter Wilds, when a monster is stunned, a white fireflower-like effect appears on its head as it falls down. The behavior during Stun is similar to other knockdown states, so you can determine whether the monster is stunned by observing its head.
Don't Confuse With Flash Pod Knockdown

Some flying monsters, when made to crash with a Flash Pod, go down with an effect similar to Stun. A down caused by a Flash is not a Stun, so keep that in mind.
Stun Duration is Approx. 10 Seconds
The Stun duration is about 10 seconds. The duration does not change even if the same monster is stunned multiple times.
Stun Value Decreases Over Time
Stun value accumulated on a monster gradually decreases over time. When aiming for a stun, be mindful of hitting attacks at short intervals.
Does Not Accumulate During Stun
Even if you attack the head of an already stunned monster, Stun value is not accumulated. You cannot continuously inflict stuns, so it's safer to attack other weak spots during this state.
Required Stun Value Increases
Once a monster is stunned, the required stun value for the next stun increases. This increase continues with each successive stun, so when aiming for the second and subsequent stuns, it's important to consider the growing stun value.
Each Monster Has Resistance

Each monster has a specific stun resistance value, which affects the amount of stun buildup required. You can check a monster's stun resistance in the in-game monster encyclopedia.
