A large species of amphibians that use the adhesive quality of their saliva to affix stone to their forelimbs in order to power up their attacks.

New Monster Found in Windward Plains

Chatacabra is a new monster that will be introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds. It appears in Windward Plains and can be seen in the trailers to be able to attack with its long tongue.

Coats its Limbs with Stone Using its Saliva

Chatacabra uses its adhesive saliva to affix stone and other materials to its forelimbs. When in this state, its attacks may deal higher damage. It might have better defenses as well. It might also be possible to mine with a pickaxe while it is down.

Likely Related To Tetsucabra?

Chatacabra is very similar to Tetsucabra, a monster that appeared in past titles. It's name is based on the amphibian motif and its close skeletal structure suggests a close relationship between them.

Tongue Sweep Attack

The Chatacabra makes use of its long, distinctive tongue to attack in a sweeping matter. Since its saliva is adhesive, it is likely to inflict a status effect with it.

Could Affix Stones on its Forelegs When it's Enraged?

It seems that the Chatacabra becomes enraged when it places stones in its forelegs since it roars during it. In many cases, monsters similar to the Chatacabra has appeared wherein their "cloak" or special feature can be removed by attacking that specific area. If it follows the same logic, attacking the limbs when they are affixed with stone may be advantageous.

Rush Attack

It thrusts forward with its tongue sticking out and gouges the ground. In the video, you can see the attack being performed while it has stones on it, There's a chance that this attack becomes stronger when in that state.
