Be Cautious of the Fireblight Status Ailment

Quematrice attacks using its ignited tail, which results in damage over time with its Fireblight if you're hit. You can extinguish the fire by evading a few times, so evade quickly to reduce damage it does.

Focus The Attack on Head

Quematrice's Hit zone on its head and tail are particularly effective in all Slash/Blunt/Ammo attacks, allowing it to deal damage effectively. In particular, the neck is a weak point and can be attacked along with the head, so focus on the neck and head to efficiently deal damage.

Destroy Tails for Advantage

Quematrice's tail can be destroyed up to 2 times. The first time destroying it will disable the fire during the tail attack when the monster is not enraged, and the 2nd time destroying it will shorten the reach and greatly weaken the tail attack, so be sure to keep the tail in mind when attacking.

Reposition During Attack

The Quematrice often uses sweeping tail attacks that leave detonating sparks on the ground. Quematrice is locked during this attack animation which allows you to reposition yourself behind Quematrice for attacks once its attack has concluded. Just remember to watch out for the sparks that it leaves behind during this attack.

Attack from the Sides

Quematrice attacks using its head and tail, so the sides are usually a safe place. You can also damage its legs and cause it to fall but watch out for its sweeping attack.

Trade Damage for Damage

Quematrice uses a pecking attack that leaves a small opening for Hunter attacks. The damage is negligible, but it often uses this attack consecutively, allowing Hunters to land attacks on the side of its head. Furthermore, since this attack does not cause flinching or knock backs, you could use this opportunity to land a very heavy attack on the premise of taking a bit of damage to dish out a lot of damage.
