The Slinger can be quick fired even while your weapon is drawn. Remember to make use of this Slinger feature when you find yourself in situations that need it.

Enable the Slinger Auto-load Option

Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) - Slinger Auto-load Option

We highly recommend enabling the Slinger Auto-load feature within the game options. This option automatically loads the selected Slinger ammo, which makes switching ammo on the fly more convenient.

2Trigger environmental hazards and interactions.
3Traverse areas with Wedge Beetles.
4Acquire Slinger ammo from endemics.

Gather Items and Materials from a Distance

One of the newly added features of the Hook Slinger is the ability to gather items that are just out of reach. This feature can even be used while you are riding a Seikret, so you can easily gather materials while you are on your way to your target location.

▼Use the DPad to Auto-target items outside your FOV

You can use the auto-targeting feature of the Slinger by holding L2 + Up/Down + ◯ to select and gather one of the surrounding items. This feature can even target items outside your field of vision, which is very useful when trying to acquire an item that you can't find or see.

Trigger Environmental Hazards and Activate Gimmicks

The Hook Slinger can also be used to trigger environmental hazards like Sharp Crystal Pillars or Falling Boulders. In previous games, you often had to trigger the interactions with a bullet, so it's a nice change to be able to trigger such hazards even without bullets. Note that the range to trigger hazards is limited, so depending on the distance, you may still need to use Slinger ammo.

Swing from Wedge Beetles

Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) - Wedge Beetles

In certain places of the map exist Wedge Beetles, which are stationary beetles that the Hunter can swing from to avoid attacks or gain height.

Acquire Slinger Ammo from Small Monsters

Hunters can use the Hook Slinger to acquire different types of Slinger Ammo from small monsters on the map. Ammo such as Screamer Pods from Baunos and Bleeding Pods from Gajios can be collected via the Hook Slinger.

Fire Slinger

Fire Various Slinger Ammo

You can load and fire various Slinger ammo collected from the field. Different types of ammo have different effects. Items from older MH titles like Flash Bombs, Sonic Bombs, and Dung Bombs all make their return in MH Wilds as Pods for the Slinger!

Slinger Ammo Types

Best / Recommended Slinger Ammo

1▼ Flash Pods to stagger Monsters
2▼ Screamer Pods to pull Monsters from underground
3▼ Dung Pods to Move or Separate Monsters
4▼ Grounding Pods to Disrupt Ray Dau
5▼ Luring Pods to draw Monsters into hazards
6▼ Paint Pod to mark locations in map

Flash Pods to Stagger Monsters

Flash Pods cause a violent flash on impact, which temporarily stuns and dazes monsters that see it. Monsters that are affected by this attack are blinded and throw out attacks in random directions. Note that the flash needs to be within a monster's field of vision for it to affect them.

Grounds Flying Monsters

Similar to Flash Bombs in older titles, Flash Pods can knock flying monsters out of the air. If you can successfully affect a flying monster with a Flash Pod, it will fall out of the air and onto the ground, where it will be vulnerable to attacks for a few seconds.

Repeated Use Lowers Potency

Every successive time that you use a Flash Pod against the same monster, the more resistant that monster becomes against Flash Pods. With continued use of Flash Pods, the monster will eventually become completely resistant, and will no longer be knocked down even while flying.

Screamer Pods to Pull Monsters from Underground

Screamer Pods are the MH Wilds equivalents of Sonic Bombs from past games. This Pod triggers a high-frequency sound that affects sensitive monsters like Balahara.

Monsters who spend plenty of time underground can be staggered by Screamer Pods, which leaves them vulnerable, but only for a while.

Dung Pods to Move or Separate Monsters

Dung Bombs make a return in MH Wilds in the form of Dung Pods. These Pods can be used to force a monster away from an area. This is useful if you want to move the monster to more favourable terrain, or perhaps separate a monster from others to make the fight more manageable.

Large Dung Pods Move Multiple Monsters

Large Dung Pods move monsters within a certain area, making it useful against monsters who move in groups.

Grounding Pods to Disrupt Ray Dau

Grounding Pods stun Rey Dau, which leaves it vulnerable. Additionally, Grounding Pods can completely cancel some of Rey Dau's attacks, so try to use them optimally!

Luring Pods to Draw Monsters into Hazards

Luring Pods can be used to draw the Monster towards the player. This effect is then used to pull the pursuing monster into various environmental hazards.

Luring Pods to Draw Monsters into Hazards

Paint Pod

Paint Pod, when used, allows you to mark your current location or the monster's location for a moment. You can check the location hit by the Paint Pod in the map.
