In Monster Hunter Wilds, the SOS Flare can be activated via Shortcut or Menu during quests. To use the shortcut, press L1 + R Stick to select it.

The most common reason you can't use an SOS Flare is if you haven't accepted a quest. The SOS Flare can only be used during a quest, so make sure to check your quest status from the menu.

For monsters on the field map, there are many cases where they cannot be turned into quests. However, if you're in battle, dealing a certain amount of damage will allow you to start the quest. Alternatively, you can select the monster from the map to convert it into a quest.

Check If You're Online

SOS Flare sent when online allows other players to join. If offline, only NPC support hunters will be added. To have players assist you, make sure you are online.

To hunt with other players using SOS Flare, an online subscription is required for PS5 and Xbox. Subscribe to PlayStation Plus for PS5 and Xbox Game Pass for Xbox.

How To Join SOS Flare Call

  1. Complete Story Quest Until Doshaguma Quest.
  2. Talk to Alma In Base Camp
  3. Join SOS Flare Quest

To participate in other players' SOS Flare calls, you must have progressed through the storyline to the Doshaguma Subjugation Quest.

The advantage of SOS Flare is it allows you to tackle quests with multiple players. If you're in a situation like "I'm not great at fighting monsters, but I need materials...", you can send out SOS Flare to receive support from other players and NPCs.

Be Cautious When Online

If you're online and send out an SOS Flare, you never know which hunters may join you, depending on your settings. Be sure to play with good manners and respect in the game.
