Yian Kut-Ku Strategy Tips

1Prepare and Bring Dung Pods
2Beware of Fireblight
3Target Parts Other Than Both Legs
4Destroy Wounds to Prevent Rampaging
5Take Advantage of Weakened State in Scarlet Forest

Prepare and Bring Dung Pods

In Monster Hunter Wilds, Yian Kut-Ku appears in groups when the environment is Plenty. Since Yian Kut-Ku does not engage in turf wars with each other, facing more than one at a time is risky. Use Dung Pods to separate them and reduce the danger.

Beware of Fireblight

Yian Kut-Ku is known for frequently using fire-based breath attacks, which cause Fireblight upon contact. To reduce damage, roll a few times to quickly cleanse the status. Rolling near water will remove it in a single roll.

Target Parts Other Than Both Legs

Yian Kut-Ku's hitzones, excluding the legs, are weak to slashing, blunt, and ammo attacks. Focus on attacking these areas, particularly the head, which can be broken for additional damage. Targeting the head is highly recommended.

Destroy Wounds to Prevent Rampaging

When Yian Kut-Ku enters an enraged state, it may perform consecutive Dash Attacks or continue rampaging without stopping. Its hitzones become softer and more susceptible to wounds, making it an ideal time to focus on breaking wounds and aiming for consistent knockdowns. By preventing it from rampaging freely, you'll be able to hunt more smoothly.

Take Advantage of Weakened State in Scarlet Forest

Yian Weakened

▲ If Yian Kut-Ku escapes from Area 8, it takes approx. 1 min. and 40 sec to reach Area 16

If Yian Kut-Ku appears in Scarlet Forest, its nest is in Area 16. If you're fighting in the lower levels and it escapes, the travel time is significantly long. Once the weakened indicator appears, immediately use a Flash Pod to stop its movement and capture it to shorten the hunt duration.

How to Fight Yian Kut-Ku

1▼ Charging Attack
2▼ Beware of Flaming Charge
3▼ Anticipate the Tail Sweeps
4▼ Up to 3 Consecutive Fireballs
5▼ Punish the Single Fireball

Charging Attack

▲ If you can dodge by passing beside it, it will be easier to punish with an attack afterwards.

The charge attack performed by Yian Kut-Ku while scraping its jaw on the ground has strong tracking ability, so be cautious as a single dodge may not be enough to avoid it. To reliably avoid it, you should either use consecutive dodges to create a significant distance or use a guard to counter it.

Beware of Flaming Charge

When Yian Kut-Ku charges while breathing fire, be cautious of the fireballs and dodge to the left or right. There’s a chance Yian Kut-Ku will fall over after completing its charge, so use that as an attack opportunity.

Anticipate the Tail Sweeps

When Yian Kut-Ku swings its tail left and right, it's a telegraph for a tail sweep. If you're using a ranged weapon, it's unlikely to hit you, but while using a melee weapon, due to its size, it’s almost certain to land, so make sure to back up quickly.

Up to 3 Consecutive Fireball Attacks

The attack that launches small fireballs in an arc can be used up to 3 times. Since the projectiles travel at a relatively fast speed, move to Yian Kut-Ku's sides to avoid the attacks. The sides of the beak is safe, so you could also opt to punish Yian Kut-Ku while it spits out fireballs.

Punish the Single Fireball

The single shot that fires a particularly large fireball, often used as a follow-up to charge attacks, travels towards the Hunter in a much higher arc compared to usual. This means that standing still may cause the Fireball to land behind you, nullifying your guard. Unless you're standing at a very close range, you can usually dodge it, so try to get in close and attack.
