Strategy Guide

1.▼After the Attack Boost that unleashes Thunder, aim for a knockdown
2.▼Prepare countermeasures for Thunderblight
3.▼Use a Flash Pod mid-flight to force a knockdown
4.▼Utilize environmental traps in Area 17
5.▼The Attack Boosted ground in Area 17 will explode
6.▼Hitting with a Grounding Pod during charge causes Stagger

Aim for a Knockdown After Thunder Attack

After Rey Dau does a Thunder-based attack, you can knock it down by using Focus Strike when its horns glow red. Since you can knock it down again, be sure to close in after a Thunder attack. However, out of all Thunder attacks, only the one performed twice in a row does not cause a knockdown.

Countering Thunderblight

Getting hit by Rey Dau’s Thunder-element attack will inflict Thunderblight. While affected by Thunderblight, you become more susceptible to Stun when hit by monster attacks. Keep evading or use a Nulberry to remove Thunderblight.

Use Flash Pod to Knock It Down Mid-Air

Using a Flash Pod while Rey Dau is airborne will cause it to fall. When it falls, it enters a staggered state, allowing us to deal free hits for a few seconds. Be sure to use Flash Pods when it’s flying.

Flash Pods will not be Effective on Fifth Time

Flash Pod knockdowns are only effective up to the fourth time. After that, Rey Dau will momentarily stop moving but won’t fall anymore.

Utilize Environmental Traps in Area 17

Rey Dau tends to visit more at Area 17 contains an environmental trap called Falling Boulder. Dropping it on Rey Dau deals massive damage. Use a Ghillie Mantle to stealthily approach and pull the Falling Boulder down with your Slinger.

Exploding Ground in Area 17 After Attack

In Area 17, the ground hit by Rey Dau’s attack will explode. When fighting here, don’t just evade the attacks, but make sure to move out of the explosion’s range.

Use a Dung Pod to Relocate

Hitting a monster with a Dung Pod will force it to move to another area. Since Area 17 gives Rey Dau an advantage, using a Dung Pod drives it away.

Hit It with a Grounding Pod During Charge to Stagger

When Rey Dau is charged with electricity, hitting it with a Grounding Pod will cause it to stagger. If you’re in a tough spot and about to be hit by an attack, use a Grounding Pod to stagger it and cancel the attacks.

Grounding Pods Can Be Found in Area 17

Monster Hunter Wilds - Grounding Pod Locations
You can obtain Grounding Pods by picking up “Charged Thunder Stones” in Windward Plains’ Area 17.

Rey Dau Strategy Tips

1.Distinguishing Multiple Thunder Attacks by Motions
2.Evade Left or Right if the Wings Touch the Ground
3.Evade Close When Rey Dau Swings Its Wings for the Attack
4.Watch for Wing Smash Attack After a Midair Flip
5.Beware of Head Thrust When Rey Dau Lowers Its Horns
6.Beware of Tail Whip When Behind Rey Dau

Distinguishing Multiple Thunder Attacks by Motions

Rey Dau has multiple Thunder-based attacks. You can distinguish them by their motions before the strike, so time your evasion carefully. The following Thunder attacks occur both on the ground and in the air, but their motions remain the same.

Wide Explosion Radius if Blue Glow Appears

When the neck glows blue, the Thunder that follows causes a wide-range explosion at the point of impact. In addition to the blue glow at the neck, the surrounding area will darken slightly. Compared to other AttackBoosts, this one is particularly powerful, so take extra caution.

2-Hit Attacks When Neck Glows White

If only the head glows white, Rey Dau will release two consecutive Thunder attacks. Make sure to dodge both hits before proceeding with your AttackBoost. Since the AttackBoost is slow, you can avoid it by simply walking left or right.

Single Attack When Neck Glows White

If Rey Dau's head and back glow white, a Thunder attack with a long charge time will follow. You can easily avoid it by just moving left or right.

Evade Left or Right if the Wings Touch the Ground

After Rey Dau jumps and performs an attack with its wings touching the ground, evade left or right. The preparatory motion will create some distance, so as long as you choose the right direction to evade, it will be easy to avoid.

Evade Close When Rey Dau Swings Its Wings for the Attack

When Rey Dau swings its wings for an attack, move in close and evade. If you're using a melee weapon, this is your chance for an attack. The preparatory motion is when Rey Dau stabs its wings into the ground.

Watch for Wing Smash Attack After a Midair Flip

After Rey Dau flips in the air, it will perform an attack with its wings. Run left or right, or evade to avoid. While Rey Dau pulls back its wings for a smash attack, this is your opportunity for an attack.

Beware of Head Thrust When Rey Dau Lowers Its Horns

When fighting at close range, if Rey Dau pushes its horns forward, be wary of a head thrust. You can avoid this by moving backward.

Beware of Tail Whip When Behind Rey Dau

When fighting behind Rey Dau, be cautious of its tail attacks. Even if you're in front, you'll still get hit if it's a spinning attack. you should also avoid it even if you are in your team's opposite side.
