What are Wounds?

A New System to Create Weaknesses

Wounds is a new system to create weak points on a monster's body. By repeatedly attacking the same part of the body, wounds are created as temporary weak spots, which hunters can attack to inflict heavy damage. This is different from the Wound system in World.

Attacking Wounds can Knock Down Monsters

Attacking Wounds can Knock Down Monsters

If you attack a wound, it could be destroyed and the monsters can be knocked down, creating further opportunities to attack. A Focus Strike, which can be done by pressing R1 while in Focus Mode, can destroy it in a single strike.

Wound Destruction are Likely Different from Part Destruction

It's likely that Wound destruction is separate from the body part destruction system. Parts can be destroyed which can also knock down monsters.

Wound System Guide

Increase Damage Inflicted

When you make a wound, that area becomes a weak spot and the damage increases. Consistently creating wounds is very important to create opportunities and inflict damage to monsters.

Perform Focus Strike while in Focus Mode

Focus Strike is a special attack meant to inflict heavy damage on wounds. It's done by pressing the R1 button during Focus Mode. The attack is successful when the first attack of the Focus Strike hits.

Wounds are Highlighted during Focus Mode

While in Focus Mode, not only can you Focus Strike, but the wound is also highlighted. If you want to see wounds, go into Focus Mode.
