In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Melding Pot is unlocked immediately near the start of Chapter 3-3. Wyverian Melding is available right away, while Meld Relics needs Chapter 5-1 clear and Meld Decorations needs full story clear.

Melding can be done by rarity, such as "Mystery" and "Shining." High Rarity melding can be unlocked as you progress through the story.

If You Want To Guarantee, Use Meld Decoration
With Meld Decoration, you can guarantee the creation of the piece you want. Although it is not possible to create an item with better effects or complex Decorations, it is recommended when you want a certain skill.

Wyverian Melding can give Decorations with Better Effects
If you want a Decoration with better effects, use Wvyerian Melding. Although what you get is random, selecting Old or Shining Rarity can give you Decorations with High Rarity.
If you want Artian Parts, use Meld Relics
If you want parts for Artian Weapons, use Meld Relics. It can be made from the "Dragon Bloodstone" material obtained from breaking Tempered Battle Scars from Tempered Monsters.

Decoration Melding points can be obtained by progressing through the story. Although it is limited, you can get high points from them.
Full Story Walkthrough and GuideUnobtainable from Quest Rewards
Melding materials such as "Crushed Crystals" are mentioned to be obtained from a Guardian's carcass but it has not been obtainable from quest rewards or leaving the carcass in the field.

Destroying Tempered Battle Scars that can only be found in Tempered Monsters can give you Melding materials specific for that monster.

Melding Tickets and Relic Tickets can be obtained through Bounties and Item Exchange. You can get a lot of them this way and meld dozens of Decorations.
Melding Unwanted Decorations or Artian Parts Is Good Too
You can chooses to use unused or unwanted Decorations or Artian Parts for melding. Confirm if they are dupes or not needed before using them as materials.
