Gravios Strategy Tips

1▼ Counter Tough Hides with Sharpness or Skill
2▼ Prepare Items for Sleep and Poison
3▼ Attack the Abdomen
4▼ Use Traps to Easily Break Parts
5▼ 3 Opportunities to Expose Weak Points

Counter Tough Hides with Sharpness or Skill

In Monster Hunter Wilds, Gravios has extremely tough Hitzones. While high Sharpness weapons help, Mind's Eye is particularly effective. It significantly improves damage output and overall performance, making it a worthwhile skill to activate specifically for Gravios.

White Sharpness Prevents Attack Deflections

For Gravios, weapons with white sharpness can strike without deflection, even without Mind's Eye. However, as Sharpness decreases over time, attacks will start being deflected once it drops to blue. Keep an eye on it and sharpen as needed.

Prepare Items for Sleep and Poison

Gravios releases Sleep and Poison gas when you're close. Bring Energy Drinks for sleep resistance and Antidotes or Herbal Medicine for poison protection.

Attack the Abdomen

Breaking Gravios' parts exposes its flesh, turning it into a weak point where damage is significantly increased. The abdomen and back, in particular, take especially high damage. Focus on getting under its feet and attacking the abdomen, prioritizing part breaks to deal the most damage.

Use Traps to Easily Break Parts

Gravios is highly mobile and has a variety of attack options for close combat, so using a Shock Trap to immobilize it and then focusing on attacking the abdomen is very effective. Since Gravios has high health, if it's weakened, capturing it to avoid a prolonged battle is also recommended.

Opportunities to Expose 3 Weak Points

Gravios has three key moments when its weak points are exposed due to specific actions. While these opportunities may not always align, if they do, you can knock Gravios down with a Focus Strike, so make sure to keep an eye on them.

The Head After the Straight Beam Attack

After Gravios' heat beam attack, its head becomes a weak point, making it vulnerable to a Focus Strike. While the chance of another weak point opportunity is low and it often results in a large knockback, this can serve as a temporary way to halt its movement when you're unable to attack its legs.

The Back Releasing Steam After Rolling Attack

After the rolling attack, Gravios' back releases steam, exposing a weak spot. Melee weapons rarely have the opportunity to reach it, but for ranged weapons, this presents a chance to exploit the opening. Once the back is destroyed, it will no longer release steam, so keep this in mind.

Tip of Tail Emits Steam After ail Attack

After the back-and-forth tail attack, there is a moment when steam is emitted from the tip of the tail, exposing a weakness at the tip. Since you generally fight from the front, the tip of the tail is hard to target, but if you're behind in multiplayer or similar situations, it's worth keeping an eye on.

How to Fight Gravios

1Various Downward Attacks
2Often Uses Gas After Heat Rays
3Proactively Use Focus Strikes
4Beware of Tail Attacks
5Watch for Gas Attacks
6Retreat from Rolling Attacks

Various Downward Attacks

Gravios is a fairly tall monster and you will often find yourself fighting right by its feet in order to break open it's chest plates. Watch out for the numerous attacks Gravios can use to target Hunters at its feet, such as Gas attacks, Heat rays, and stamping attacks. Each of these attacks have recognizable telegraphs, so be sure to pay attention to Gravios' movements while fighting below it.

Often Uses Gas After Heat Rays

The Gravios' signature heat ray attacks are great opportunities to attack it's abdominal area. However, be wary of the gas attacks that it usually employs after heat rays.

Proactively Use Focus Strikes

Gravios is a slow-moving monster, which makes it easier than usual to Wound it and use Focus Strikes. Even if you aren't used to executing Focus Strikes, Gravios makes for an excellent Monster to practice it on.

Focus Mode Guide

Beware of Tail Attacks

Gravios has two variations of tail attacks: a single sweep, and a double sweep. Both attacks are telegraphed by Gravios turning its head to look at you. Gravios uses the momentum of the single sweep to turn its whole body to face you, or it uses a double sweep but does not turn. Depending on the size of the individual Gravios, the reach of this attack differs, so stepping away is the safest measure.

Frontal Tail Sweep

Gravios may occasionally attempt to use the same tail sweep even if you are standing in front of it. The telegraphs are the same, so anticipate the attack and prepare to counter.

Watch for Gas Attacks

When Gravios raises its head, it is preparing to release a gas by its feet. There are three variations of these attacks: Sleep, Poison, and Fire. Make sure to bring Antidotes and Energy Drinks to counteract the effects of both sleep and gas.

Retreat from Rolling Attacks

The Gravios' rolling attack has a very large hit box, so exaggerate the distance between yourself and the monster to successfully avoid this attack. Alternatively, you could run towards the Gravios and roll underneath it to avoid the attack entirely, but until you can quickly identify this attack, we recommend running away or using an emergency evade.

  1. Craft Water Element Heavy Bowgun with Rare 8 Parts
  2. Equip Useful Skills
  3. Start 'Armor Like a Mountain' in Area 14
  4. Shoot Water Ammo at Gravios Until It Goes Down
