WeaponRecommendation
Felyne Barina NeedleFelyne Barina NeedleCan occasionally immobilize the monster with paralysis
Felyne Nerscylla WedgeFelyne Nerscylla WedgeCan occasionally immobilize the monster with sleep

For your Palico, weapons that inflict paralysis or sleep are recommended. These status effects can hinder the monster's movement, opening up more opportunities for attack.

Use Attack Up Items Before the Hunt

Demondrug has a long effect time, and the preparation time before use is a bit longer, so it's best to use it at the Base Camp beforehand. Might Seed and Demon Powder should be used just before descending from Seikret to avoid wasting them.

Prepare a Pitfall Trap for Capturing

Rey Dau cannot be captured with a Shock Trap, so be aware that it can only be captured with a Pitfall Trap. Depending on the starting position, the travel time can be very long, so once you see the "weakened" status, stop its movement with Flash Pods and set the Pitfall Trap immediately.

Strategy and Tips for Temp Rey Dau

Battle Strategy Guide

1Aim for the Hard Parts of the Head and Wings
2Remember the Attacks That Should Be Guarded
3Flash Pod all flying attacks to bring them down
4Make Sure to Knock Down If the Horn's Weak Spot Is Exposed
5Craft Ammo and Flash Pods Before Running Out
6Destroy Tempered Wounds at the right moment
7Capture before they move when possible

Aim for the Hard Parts of the Head and Wings

Rey Dau has a vulnerability to Ice Element damage on its head, allowing for efficient damage dealing. It is recommended to position yourself in a way that targets the head, extending through the central body, and then to the wings for optimal damage output.

Remember the Attacks That Should Be Guarded

How to Do
+
(Press together when an attack is coming)

After shooting or reloading, automatic Guard doesn't activate, so make sure you can perform manual Guard quickly. Roar offers a chance to attack, and the discharge attack can be countered with Focus Strike. Mastering this can help shorten the hunting time.

Recommended Guard: Wing Sweep (Left-Right)

At close range, Guard is recommended for the wing sweep attack. After the sweeping attack, it may transition into a discharge attack, so use the brief opening after the second sweep to throw a Flash Pod and create distance.

Recommended Guard: Discharge Attacks

The discharge attacks from Rey Dau, such as the railgun, require Guard, so make sure to block them properly. Once you're used to it, it becomes an opportunity to attack the exposed weak spot.

Flash Pod Flying Attacks To Stun

▲Flying attacks are aimed at you, so deploying a Flash Pod at your feet will cause it to crash.

Rey Dau often uses flying attacks, and you can bring it down by hitting it with a Flash Pod during its flying phase. If you close the distance, you'll face more attacks like wing sweeps or head thrusts that can be blocked with Guard, so always aim to bring it down by Flash Pod during flying actions to maintain a safe distance.

Limit Flash Pod to 5 Uses

Flash Pods are effective against Rey Dau for about 6 uses, after which they no longer interrupt its movements. During Capturing, the monster becomes harder to stop, and will often move around. So, try to limit the use of Flash Pods to 5 times as much as possible.

Make Sure to Knock Down If the Horn's Weak Spot Is Exposed

After discharge attacks or large moves, when the horn’s weak spot is exposed, be sure to use a Focus Strike to down the monster. Especially after blocking a large move with Guard, the exposed weak spot will be right in front of you, making it easy to land a Special Attack to down the monster.

Craft Ammo and Flash Pods Before Running Out

Always craft Freeze Ammo and Flash Pods before they run out. If you wait until they're depleted to craft, you’ll need to switch ammo or reset your Flash Pods, which takes extra time.

Destroy Tempered Wounds At the Right Time

Tempered Wounds can be destroyed when timed right, excluding effects like Paralysis or Traps. It’s an opportunity to pile on damage, so avoid destroying them all at once.

Capture Before Moving If Possible

▲ Only Pitfall Traps work, so use Flash Pods to make sure the capture is successful.

If the monster moves after it weakens, it will take extra time, so when the Palico says 'It's weakening,' it's best to immediately capture. Use Flash Pods to stop its movements, set a trap, and safely capture the monster.
