Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase

Travel Using the Mount 'Seikret'

You can travel across the field by riding Seikret, which has high mobility. By specifying a destination on the map, Seikret will automatically take you there, making movement and traveling more comfortable and convenient.

Seikret Guide

Carry a Secondary Weapon

You can store a second weapon in Seikret's 'weapon pouch' and switch between them during hunts. Whether you alternate between Melee and Ranged Weapons or use different Elemental weapons, the combinations provide a broader range of combat strategies.

Secondary Weapon Guide

New Feature: Inflicting Wounds on Monsters

You can now inflict wounds on a monster by continuously attacking the same body part, making it a weak spot. In Monster Hunter: World, you used the Clutch Claw to cling to monsters and perform wound-inflicting attacks. With the Clutch Claw gone, the system has been changed to allow wounds to be inflicted through direct attacks.

Wounds Guide

New Actions Added

In Monster Hunter Wilds, new attack actions have been added. Each of the 14 weapon types from Monster Hunter: World now includes several new actions.

Weapon Types & New Actions

Focus Mode for Precise Attacks

Focus Mode is a new action available for all weapon types, allowing you to lock onto targets for more precise attacks and guarding. When using Focus Mode, wounds on monsters glow red. It also improves targeting and distance management, making it easier to line up your attacks.

Focus Mode Guide

Power Clash Occur When Guarding

For weapon types that allow Guard, you can trigger a Power Clash when guarding certain monster attacks. During a Power Clash, you'll push the monster back, potentially breaking its stance and opening up opportunities for follow-up attacks.

Power Clash Guide

Offset Attack Counters & Disrupt Monster's Balance

With certain weapon types, if you timed a specific attack action to match a monster's attack, an Offset Attack would occur, launching the monster away. Additionally, Offset Attacks can lead to powerful follow-up attacks.

Sneak Attack Against Unaware Enemies

By pressing the ◯ button behind a monster that hasn't noticed you, you can perform a sneak attack. This allows you to deal significant damage in a short amount of time, making it a useful tactic.

Sneak Attack Guide

Ability to Move & Throw Large Barrel Bombs

Large Barrel Bombs, familiar from Monster Hunter: World, can now be carried and rolled in Monster Hunter Wilds. You can also throw them, making them more versatile and easier to use.

Cook Anywhere in the Field

Cooking in Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, unlike in World where cooking was only possible at bases or camps, you can now cook Rations anywhere on the field using the Portable BBQ Grill. This allows you to boost your health and other stats for a limited time without returning to camp, which is a nice addition.

How To Cook Meals Guide

Increase Maximum Health by Cooking Steaks

You can also cook Well-done Steaks with the Portable BBQ Grill. While in previous games, Well-done Steaks only increased stamina limits, in Monster Hunter Wilds, they also raise your maximum health.

Set Up Multiple Pop-Up Camps

You can set up a 'Pop-Up Camp' at any location within the field from available sites. At the Pop-Up Camp, you can swap items and equipment, accept quests, and use it as a fast travel point or respawn location when you faint. However, the number of Pop-Up Camps you can set up is limited.

Camp Guide

Hunter has Full Voice Acting

For the first time in the Monster Hunter series, the Hunter will have full voice acting. In previous titles, the Hunter only spoke during combat, while in cutscenes, the Hunter would only nod or show expressions without speaking.

Palico Can Speak Human Language

In Monster Hunter Wilds, you can choose whether your Palico speaks in 'Cat Language' or 'Human Language.' While there have been Monster Hunter spin-offs like Monster Hunter Stories where Palico spoke human language, this is the first time it’s featured in the mainline series. Since Palico often provides valuable environmental information, using Human Language might be more convenient for players.

Becomes Closer to an Open World

Becomes Open World

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the village, base, and field are seamlessly connected, making it feel more like an open world compared to Monster Hunter: World. With seamless movement and cutscenes without loading screens, players can enjoy an immersive experience without interruptions.

Graphic Improvements Raise System Requirements

Due to the enhanced graphics, the required specifications in Wilds are higher compared to World. If you are considering playing the PC version, it’s a good idea to check the recommended specifications on the following page in advance.

PS5 Pro & PC Specs Comparison

Weather Changes Over Time

Environment Forecast

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the environment changes over time, including shifts in time of day and weather. The weather is divided into three phases: Fallow, Inclemency, and Plenty. Certain monsters and environmental creatures only appear during specific weather conditions.

Mini-map Becomes More 3D

Map 3D

The mini-map has evolved into a dynamic 3D map that automatically rotates. The elevation changes are now more noticeable, making it easy to see where you can and cannot go at a glance.

Calls NPCs with an SOS Flare Offline

SOS Flare Offline

The SOS system continues in Monster Hunter Wilds. As in previous titles, you can call other players when online, and when used offline, NPC support hunters will come to assist you. With the support hunters, you can experience a pseudo-multiplayer mode with up to four players.

How To Join Multiplayer

Some Quests Automatically Accepted at the Start of Battle

In Monster Hunter Wilds, there is a new feature called the 'Field Survey Quest,' where the quest automatically starts when you attack the target monster. This allows for a seamless transition into hunting without any interruption, keeping you immersed in the current environment.

Quest Rewards Can Be Received on the Spot

The rewards for completing Field Survey quests can be received immediately without returning to the base. This means there are no loading times or waiting to head back, allowing you to jump straight into the next hunt.

Monsters & Environmental Features Takes Time to Respawn

In Monster Hunter Wilds, since there is no loading screen to return to the base after completing a quest, the respawn times for monsters and environmental features aren't reset each time. If you hunt the same monster repeatedly within a short period, the number of remaining monsters in the field decreases, which lowers the encounter rate.

Unchanged Features

1Weapon Types (14 in Total)
2Basic Mechanics of Slinger
3Multiplayer via SOS Flare
4Ghillie Mantle Returns
5Hot & Cold Drink are Back

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the things that remain the same as in World are the available weapon types, slinger, SOS flare, mantles, and hot/cool drinks. The slinger and SOS flare retain their core systems but with new features added.

Weapon Types (14 in Total)

All Weapons

The weapon types available in Monster Hunter Wilds remain the same as in World, with a total of 14 types. While no new weapon types have been added, each weapon type has received new actions, providing an entirely different experience compared to before.

Weapon Types List

Basic Mechanics of Slinger

The Slinger's feature, which allows players to reload items collected in the field and shoot them, continues to be used from World. In Wilds, the functionality has evolved further with the addition of the Hook Slinger, enabling distant item gathering and activation of environmental features.

Slinger Guide

Multiplayer via SOS Flare

The feature introduced in World, where you can receive help from other hunters online, is also available in Wilds. By sending an SOS Flare during a quest, you can summon other players and engage in cooperative play.

How To Use SOS Flare

Monster Hunter Wilds is Available Offline

In Monster Hunter Wilds, by sending an SOS Flare offline, you can team up with NPC support hunters. While the core feature of the SOS Flare remains the same, finer details have been refined to make the gameplay experience more user-friendly.

Ghillie Mantle Returns

The 'Ghillie Mantle,' which allows hunters to hide from monsters, returns from Monster Hunter: World. Other mantles have not been confirmed at this time, but there is a good chance they will appear.

Ghillie Mantle Uses & Effects

Hot & Cold Drink are Back

How and Cold Drinks, which prevent the effects of extreme heat and cold, have been spotted in the revealed footage. These items were removed in Monster Hunter Rise, making their first return since Monster Hunter: World.

Connected to World or is it a Sequel?

Story More Connected to MH4 Than MH World?

Is it Connected MH4

▲From MH4's footage. The setting is also a desert, making it a common element.

It is expected that Monster Hunter Wilds will have a story related to MH4 rather than World. In MH4, players traveled across various villages in the Deserted Island area with their caravan. The main field in Monster Hunter Wilds is also set in a desert, and the term 'Forbidden Lands,' which also appeared in MH4, is used, suggesting a strong connection between the two.

Is The Timeline Set After World?

Other Timeline

▲In MHW, General, from the Old Continent, was learning to use the Slinger.

In Monster Hunter: World, there was a scene during the fight against Fatalis where General, from the Old Continent, was learning to use the Slinger. Since the Old Continent is tied to MH4, if knowledge of the Slinger has been passed down, it would suggest that the timeline of Monster Hunter Wilds takes place after Monster Hunter: World.
