Blangonga Strategy Tips
Cure Frozen Status with Cleanser
The Blangonga's breath attack will eventually apply the Frozen status effect to Hunters if they are hit enough times. Use a Cleanser or 'wiggle' the L-stick to remove cure this status effect.
Bring Cleanser and Hot Drink
Along with the Cleanser, make sure to bring a Hot Drink, epecially in cold maps.
Take Down Accompanying Blangos During Attacks
Blangonga is surrounded by a large number of Blango as its minions. It can be troublesome if they interfere, so use wide-range attacks to reduce their numbers.
Accessible Wounds on the Back from the Head
Blangonga is not very large, so Focus Strikes from the front often hit the wounds on the back as well. Since the hitzones are soft and easy to damage, actively target and destroy them to gain an advantage in battle.
Use Offset Attacks or Counters
Offset Attacks and counters are easy to land against exaggerated windups of certain attacks like body slams. Since you often have time to destroy the wounds as well, continuing to attack without hesitation can shorten the hunt time.
Frenzied Blangonga for Material Farming

If your goal is solely Blangonga materials, targeting Frenzied Blangonga is recommended. It has significantly less health and can be completed much faster than a regular specimen, allowing for quicker runs.

Rapid Punch Deviations
Blangonga can deviate a variety of different attacks from his initial right punch. Avoiding this initial attack makes avoiding the following attacks easier, so if you see it coming, move to avoid it.
Watch Out for Falling Debris
Blangonga buries its arms in the ground and unleashes an attack like flipping a table. Be careful not to get hit by the snow that flies up during this move.
Evade the Forearm Tackle
Blangonga's punch attack starts with a significant wind-up. Its telegraphed movement makes it clear, so be ready to evade once you see it.
Move Aside During Freezing Breath
Blangonga's freezing breath attack accumulates a gauge that eventually freezes the Hunter when filled. If frozen, Blangonga will follow-up with a punch, so make sure to move to its sides during the attack. The damage itself is negligible, so if you can afford to take some hits before being frozen, you can use this as an attack window.
Anticipate the Mule Kick
When standing behind Blangonga, there's a chance it will use a Mule Kick
where it stands on its arms and uses both its feet to kick backwards like a mule. This attack is telegraphed by a short hop and comes out pretty quickly, so anticipate the attack and move to evade or counter.
