The Goliath Squid in Monster Hunter Wilds appears in Area 17 of the Scarlet Forest. It is nocturnal and it only appears at night, so make sure to change the time before heading there.

Switch Maps to Refresh if It's Not Showing Up

If you don’t see the Goliath Squid at your fishing spot, fast travel to another map and come back. The appearance status will reset, so keep moving around and wait for it to appear.

Set Up a Pop-up Camp Nearby in Advance

MH Wilds Scarlet Forest Pop-up Camp

In Area 17 of Scarlet Forest, you can set up a Pop-Up Camp nearby. When you move to a different map, it will be easier to return to the fishing spot, so be sure to set up a camp.

How to Fish Goliath Squid

Tentacle Jig is Effective Lure

Tentacle Jig lure is effective for Goliath Squid. Tentacle Jig can be obtained at the start of the side mission Razzle Dazzle.

Get Lure From Side Mission

Side Mission

Tuff Joint Bait can be obtained from the side mission "Razzle Dazzle" from NPC Kanya at Base Camp in Scarlet Forest.

Use Quick Reel + Jig Line to Lure Fish

Throw a lure near the Goliath Squid and wait for it to bite. It will bite from the side with legs, so you need to be careful where you throw the lure. Fish will bite if you Quick Reel by tilting L stick up and down quickly, or Jig Line by tilting L stick down.

Catching Goliath Squid Requires Specific Controls

Once Goliath Squid bites, the game begins. The player needs to react according to the fish's movements, and if the player is slow to react, fishing fails.

After Goliath Squid bites, Player must tilt the L stick in the direction of the Fish's movement until it gets tired and stops moving.. Be careful as the Fish will run away if you fail to react quickly.

Be Careful Not to Hit Obstacles

Fish may move toward obstacles such as rocks; if the player does not react in time, it will escape. If the fish is about to hit an obstacle, flick the stick in the opposite direction to guide the Fish.

Start Reeling When the Fish Gets Tired and Stops

up and down quickly

Doing the steps mentioned above will eventually make Goliath Squid tired and stop moving. This is a chance to catch, so keep pulling the reel until it starts moving again. Pull and lure the fish towards the player to catch.
