The Frost Bearing Tree stays permanent in the area, it won't disappear after the event so you can take as long as you don't have to worry about it.

Seems like there must be another way to get agates. After the tree hits level 8, 40 more are required to hit level 12. However, at only 5 agates per refresh, and 2 refreshes per week, that’s only 20 (+/-5 maybe) before the event ends in 12 more days.
Am I missing something?
