The Game Before The Gate can be fought by entering the Unresolved Chess Game domain. This is located in the Falcon Coast in Mondstadt.
Unlock By Completing Archon Quest Interlude: Act IV
This boss is unlocked by completing the Archon Quest Interlude Act IV. You must complete the whole quest to unlock it.

Collect Rewards Once A Week
As a World Boss, players can only collect the rewards for The Game Before The Gate once a week. You can fight it as much as you want, but once you collect the reward for the week, the subsequent fights will not yield any materials.

Cryo and Hydro characters are essential to have on your team. It's not as required during the first phase, but in the second phase, freezing the chess pieces are essential in stopping their big attacks.

First Phase Guide (Chessboard)
Attack Range Is Marked On Chest Board
Every attack by the King & Queen Chess Pieces is marked visibly in the chess board. The best way to avoid their attacks is to simply look at the chess board and not stand on any square that is lit up with an elemental color.
Lure The King Chess Piece To A Pawn
The King Chess Piece will follow you while riding on a rook. Lead it to a square with a pawn in its path. This will cause it to hit it. Do this three times and the King will become stunned, giving you an oppotunity to attack.
Use Elemental Attacks To Take Down Electro Shield
When the King Cheese Piece imbues itself with an Electro shield, it will change its attacks to Electro. Quickly remove this shield by attacking it with Elemental Attacks. Cryo is especially strong in taking down the shield.
Second Phase Guide (King & Queen)
Freeze Ascended King To Stop Its OHK Attack
When the Ascended King charges its sword in the middle of the arena, Freeze it as soon as you can. This will stop the attack and give you an oppotunity to attack. If you don't stop it, it's a one-hit kill to whichever character is on the field.
Freeze Sulbimated Queen To Stop Its OHK Attack
When the Ascended Queen charges while in the middle of the arena, Freeze it and then lead the King to charge at the Queen. You can do this by checking for the King's marked trajectory on the floor. If the Queen is not interrupted, this is also a One-Hit Kill attack.
The Queen Can Revive The King
If you defeat the King before the Queen and she has a good chunk of health left, she will sacrifice some of that health to revive the King.
Queen Gains A Damage Boost When King Is Defeated
The Sublimated Queen will gain a damage boost when the King is defeated. Its best to quickly take out the Queen once she's powered up. To do this, it's best to spread your damage between the King and Queen.
