How To Plant A Palm Tree (Coconut Tree)
Take A Coconut Home From Another Island
You can get a coconut by going on a Mystery Island Tour by buying a Nook Miles Ticket! When you get there, shake a palm tree, pick one up, and take it home to plant!
Take Home The Whole Tree
If you eat some fruit you'll be able to use your shovel to unearth an entire tree and take it home with you. This way, you won't have to wait for the tree to grow back on your island! Note that you can only plant these trees on sand!
Plant On The Beach
If you plant a Coconut on the beach, you'll be able to grow Coconuts on your island as well. After the tree is fully grown, it will bear fruit. You can use that fruit to plant additional trees!
Take About 5 Days To Grow
A coconut tree will take approximately 5 days to fully mature and start bearing fruit. Bugs will only appear on the tree in the summer, but the tree itself will grow at any time of the year.
What To Do When Not Growing
As mentioned previously, Coconut trees only grow on sand! Planting them anywhere else will result in a bud that never grows, like in the above picture.
You Can Place Sand Anywhere!
Although Coconut trees growing only on sand sounds frustrating, the good news is that you can actually place sand anywhere on your island! You will need to have the Island Designer Tool unlocked with the relevant permit, however.

Sell For 250 Bells
Coconuts can be sold for 250 Bells. They sell for more than your local fruit, but since only 2 drop from a tree, they're actually not that useful as a money making method.
Eat For A Power Up
Coconuts have the same effect as other fruit when eaten. They will give you a boost of stamina and make you stronger. 1 charge of this buff will allow you to dig up an entire tree or break a whole boulder.
Bugs That Spawn On Coconut Trees
Some Bugs Are Exclusive To These Trees
Some varieties of insects will only appear on Coconut Trees. This means having these trees on your island is basically necessary to complete your Critterpedia!

That being said, if you're willing to spend the requisite miles, it's possible to catch the bugs listed below on a Mystery Island as well.
