What Are Leaders & Followers?
Leader Plays Normally
When you're assigned as the leader during local co op, you can play as you normally can on your island. You'll have an arrow on your head to identify you as the leader.
Game Will Play In Your Point-Of-View
The camera will be in the leader's point-of-view and will follow the leader around, not the followers.
Leaders Can Be Switched
When you have multiple players on local co op, you can switch leaders, allowing other players to lead the game.
Followers Are Supporting Players
Players who are not leaders will be followers. They can support the leader and when they are off-screen, they will automatically be returned to the leader's side.
Followers Have Limited Control
Followers will not be able to chat, use the Nookphone, or check their pockets. They can, however, use tools or move furniture around to help the leader out.
Co Op / Local Multiplayer - Party Play Features
Couch Co Op With Up To 4 Friends
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it will be possible to play locally using a mode called Party Play! This mode allows up to 4 players and requires that all players use one console. This is different from Online/Wireless Multiplayer, so be careful!
Uses Accounts Of Players On Switch
In Party Play, you can choose to use the characters of different accounts on the same Nintendo Switch. This lets you play with the people who live with you on the island!
