Faster Cutting Speed Than Normal Axes
Golden Axes are able to cut trees at a significantly faster rate than regular axes. This is the only feature of the Golden Axe we've been able to confirm so far.
Durability: Breaks After ~ 200 Hits
"Oh no, my Golden Axe broke! Thanks for being such a big help"!!!
The Golden Axe in New Horizons, unlike in previous games, will break after being used a certain amount of times. In this case, we used it approximately 200 times before it finally broke.
^ We tested the durability by digging holes and smacking away at a rock until it broke!!!

1 - Make Tons Of Flimsy Axes
Since the requirement for the recipe is to break 100 axes, you'll inevitably have to prepare tons of branches or buy axes at the shop.
2 - Smack Trees Until You Run Out Of Axes
Then proceed to whack away at trees until you break 100 axes. One Filmsy Axe takes about 40 to break, so, you're looking at a total 4000 hits.
Spam The A Button
Spamming the A Button will cause text and actions to go by faster. It's only a slight difference, but it will make a difference considering how many times you'll be hitting trees.
3 - Repeat Steps 1 & 2
Keep breaking axes until you get the recipe. As a small tip, don't use the X button or tool ring to change to a different axe! This will cause you a very minor time loss. Instead, simply press right on the control pad to swap to the next Filmsy Axe instantly!
4 - Prepare The Mats And Craft It
"You made a Golden Axe!"!!!
Once you learn the recipe, all that's left to do is craft it. Make sure you have a Gold Nuggets and make your Golden Axe!
