With the Winter Update, which is available from November 19th, you can get new reactions by purchasing Hip Reaction Collection with your Nook Miles. There are total of 9 reactions added.

How To Unlock Reactions
Unlocks When Talking To Villager
While playing, a villager may come up to you and try to talk to you. Speak with them and you may have a chance to unlock Reactions!
Speak With Villagers To Get More Reactions
You'll only have a couple of Reactions unlocked when you first get access to this feature. Keep talking to the rest of your villagers every day to unlock more!

Press ZR Button To Open Reaction Ring
Once you've unlocked your Reactions, you can simply open up the Reaction wheel by pressing the ZR button. You can have up to 8 Reactions in the ring at one time.
Can Assign 8 Reactions In Reaction Ring
There are 8 slots in the Reaction ring that you can use. Assign your favorite Reactions to gain easy access to them with the ZR button!
Select Which Reaction To Use
After opening up the ring, simply press the A button to select which Reaction to use. Your character will keep that Reaction until you press another button or use another Reaction.
What Are Reactions?
Emotes Used For Expressions In-Game
Reactions are Animal Crossing: New Horizons's way of expressing emotions within the game. There is a variety of Reactions available and you can assign them to you Reaction ring for easy access.
Villagers React To Your Reactions
If you're near a villager or special character and you use a Reaction, they'll also react with their own version of the emote!
Can Be Used When Taking Photos
Reactions can also be used when you're taking photos. This makes for great snapshots and memories while playing the game.
