Already Learned Recipes Can't Be Relearned!
DIY Recipes that you already know, but which you've received a second copy of, simply cannot be used. This is unfortunate, as they end up taking up your valuable inventory space. So, what should you do with them?

Give It Away
By far the most recommended method for dealing with recipe doubles is to give it to someone else! You could be a philanthropist and simply donate it free of charge, or you could ask for a recipe in return. Either way, you can find people to do this with in our trading forum here:

"A DIY Ladder Recipe? We can give you 200 bells for that!"!!
Thankfully, you still retain the option of selling unneeded DIY Recipes to Timmy and Tommy. Unfortunately, it's not a particularly large amount of money.
Throw It Away
If you can't be bothered to do the above two methods, you can simply plop your unwanted recipe on the ground somewhere on your island. If you're expecting it to decompose over time, think again, as the recipe will stay there forever!
