Can You Catch Birds in ACNH?
Birds Cannot be Caught
Simply put, it's impossible to catch any of the birds you may find in your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Even with your trusty net, you won't be able to nab any of them before they fly off.

Birds are Programmed to Fly Away
The reason why you can't catch any of them is because they're programmed to fly away when a played gets too close to them. Unlike bugs, the birds are aware of your distance even if you approach them from their backs.
