How To Get Trash (Garbage) Efficiently

Get By Fishing

Can

Trash can be obtained by fishing it up from bodies of water, including rivers, the ocean, and ponds. Trash can be found mixed in with fish, making it somewhat hard to specifically target for farming.

Can't Fish Up Using Bait

Fish Bait is an item which forces a fish to be caught on your hook. Naturally, if you use this item, you won't be able to fish up garbage!

Make A Garbage-Filled Pond!

Garbage Pond

↑ The waterfall river's flow moved to the right, so we created a pond to the left.

Although you'll need to unlock Island Designer Tool to do so, you can actually create a pond filled with exclusively garbage! First check the direction the waterfall is moving, then create a 3x4 pond in the opposite direction! This will fill the pond with trash.

Note that you'll have to enter a house or store briefly to reset the fish on the island to get this to work right.

Plunder Trash Island

No Bug Island

One particular Mystery Island has only trash in all its water - there are no fish to be found. This may sound like you lost the Island Lottery spectacularly, but this can in fact be a great opportunity to stock up on all the garbage you'll need to make DIY Trash recipes.
