With the Bokoblin Mask Bokoblins and Boss Bokoblins will not become hostile so you won't be attacked. However, they will become hostile if you attack them.

When you speak to Kilton near the Woodland Stable in the left bottom of Eldin Canyon, then it will activate the quest. During the conversation Koltin will appear and you will be able to exchange Bubbul Gem to a Bokoblin Mask. Kilton is by the air balloon so use that as a landmark.
After the first conversation, "The Search for Koltin" Side Adventure will activate. While the event progresses, Koltin will move locations so you will have to chase him down.
