Shield - How To Use

Hold "ZL" Button With Shield

Hold ZL Button With Shield

When Shield is equipped, you can lock on the enemy by pressing the "ZL" button. This way, you can reduce the damage of incoming attacks by blocking but this also reduces the Shield's durability.

NoteIf the Shield's defense power exceeds the enemy's attack power, it is possible to bypass the enemy. Meanwhile, if the shield is weak, it can still be used to block an attack but it gets vulnerable easily. In addition, be careful when it is raining as the Shield cannot prevent lightning strikes.

Shield Cannot Be Used With Two-Handed Weapons

Shield Only Works With Sword

You cannot block even if the shield is equipped if you are using a weapon that requires both hands such as a claymore, two-handed axe, spear, & bow. It is recommended to pair the shield with a sword during a battle then switch to another weapon if you get the chance to attack.

Press 'A' Button With Good Timing

Press 'A' Button With Good Timing

To perform a Perfect Guard, block an incoming attack by pressing the 'A' button with the shield during good timing. Performing a Perfect Guard does not reduce the shield's durability, and is possible to stun the enemies, & deflect long-range attacks.

Shield Surf On Slopes

How To Do- On land: ZL + X + A
- Whie mid-air: ZL + A

You can execute Shield Surf by performing the controls mentioned above with the shield. This action lets you move quickly on the slopes. However, doing this on rocky area & grasslands will reduce the shield's durability so it is recommended only to perform this on snowy mountains & desert areas.

Shield - Perfect Guard Tips

Familiarize With Enemy's Attack Pattern

Perfect Guard requires some skills in order to perform. The trick is to learn the attack rotation of the enemy so you would know the great timing when to block. This might take a while so practice as much as possible because Perfect Guard is very useful, especially in longer combats.

Deflect Long-Range Attacks (Boulder)

The Perfect Guard is not limited to melee attacks as it can also be used against long-range attacks such as boulders throwing. As long as the timing is good, Perfect Guard is automatically executed when blocking the attack. Utilizing Perfect Guard can give you an advantage in short-range & long-range battles.
