Press the icons on the bottom of the Map to Display/Hide them.
* There are a lot of Korok Seeds so as a Default they are hidden.

How To Unlock Depths And Return¥
From The Hole On The Surface, Enter The Depths
To go to the Depths, you can enter from the holes that are on the Surface. There are no unlocking process for this, you can just start searching when you enter Hyrule. But be careful not to die from hitting the ground, so use the "Paraglider".
When You Examine The Lightroot, The Map Will Unlock

The Depths Map is first all dark. When you examine the Lightroots that are spread out all throughout the area will lighten up the surrounding areas. Examine each Lightroot and unlock the surrounding maps.
Warp Back To The Surface
When you want to return to the Surface, you can open up the Map and use warp. If you get the "Paraglider" then you can at least warp back to "Lookout Landing Skyview Tower".
Tips To Explore The Depths Map
Carry Brightbloom Seeds And Arrows
The Depths is dark so it is required to use "Brightbloom Seeds". If you want to go on a full exploration, it is recommended to carry at least 100 of them. Also if you attach them on arrows, then you can shoot them at the higher places and light up the areas.
Increase Luminous Levels With Weapons, Armor And Foods
Other than Brightbloom Seeds, you can increase the Luminous Level with Armors and Foods to light up your way to make your exploration easier. Also if you have Flame type weapons then your Luminous level will be 1, so it might be great to have one with you.
"Riju"s Power Is Also Recommended
By using Riju's Skill, it will create a Lightning Field which will make it easier to search the Depths. Riju will be added to your party after completing "Riju of Gerudo Town".

The Lightroots in the Depths are placed right under the Surface's Shrines. So you can open the Surface Map and compare it with the Depths and find them that way to make it easier for you.
▶Shrines Map - All Shrine LocationsWhen You Touch Gloom Then Recover With Roots
The Depths are covered in "Gloom" which will decrease the amount of Hearts you have. When you are shined by the light, then you will recover the Hearts that you have lost. If there are Roots nearby then you will want to be Shined so you can recover yourself.

Most of the Depth Map is covered in cliffs. There are cliffs that you can climb which are shortcuts. If you have enough Stamina then the exploration will be easier. To recover your Stamina, it is good to have "Energizing Elixir" that you can make with "Restless Cricket".

If you want to explore that area then you will want Flame Guard foods or gear. You can purchase these gear at Goron City.

Can Receive A Reward
When you unlock all 120 Lightroots, you will receive "Dispelling Darkness Medal". It is a sign that you have completed all 120 locations so it will be a great way to complete your map.
▶How To Complete 100% - Map Checklist & CheckerCompletion Will Increase 4.8%
When you find all the Lightroots it will increase your completion of 4.8%. To aim for the 100% completion of the map, then it is required to get.
