Hydreigon Review In Match Battles
- High level Special Dark Attacker
- Terastal works well with the Ability [Levitate].
- Excellent capability for Pivot Builds and overwhelming burst damage.
▶Best Pokemon For Ranked Battles
Dark Pulse can inflict great damage that is hard to withstand
Hydreigon has a high Sp. Attack and its move [Dark Pulse] with the Same-type Attack bonus would not be nullified by any types, making it easy to gain an advantage in Pivot Battles and deal effective damage to multiple Pokemon.
A wide range of effective moves
Hydreigon can not only use Dragon and Dark moves which have the Same-type Attack bonus, but also can use Flamethrower and Flash Cannon. And Flash Cannon is powerful to counterattack Fairy types which are especially often selected to defeat Hydreigon.
Hard to deal with the opponent's Terastal
If the opposing Dragon or Ghost type, which you can deal super-effective damage with the Same-type Attack bonus moves, terastalizes into Fairy type, Hydreigon may be defeated soon after it has time to use Flash Cannon.

Strengths & How to Use
Reverses the type effectiveness by Steel Terastal
Hydreigon is originally weak against Dragon and Fairy types, but with Steel Terastal and Flash Cannon, Hydreigon can become strong against them. In addition, since the Ability Levitate can nullify Ground moves, it can work well with Steel types, whose weakness is Ground.
Boosts overwhelming firepower with Choice Specs
Hydreigon can reduce damage from many types to half or less, making it easy to take the action after the opponent. Draco Meteor and Dark Pulse with Choice Specs are difficult to withstand by switching pivots, allowing you to break through the opponent's team build.
Pokemon Team Compositions
Pokemon | Reason |
---|---|
Skeledirge | Hydreigon and Skeledirge can make up for each other's weaknesses. |
Amoonguss | Suitable for Pivot Battles and strong against Azumarill and Breloom, which Hydreigon is not good at. |
Dragonite | It is easy for Hydreigon to take an advantage over the Physical Tank and Ghost types that are selected against Dragonite by the opponents. |
Hydreigon works well with Pivot Builds
While Choice Specs is powerful, it allows you to use only one move, it'd be better to always have a pivot to switch in. It is easy to make the most of Hydreigon if it is combined with durable Pokemon to build a team with a good balance between offense and defense.
Other Suggestions
Suggested Moves
Move | Reason |
---|---|
U-turn | It can be used to see how the opponent changes its type by Terastal early in the game. |
Fire Blast | Although the hit rate is low, it is easier to take out Corviknight and Amoonguss with one shot, which [Flamethrower] could not take out. |
Counter Pokemon for Hydreigon
Exploits The Weakness with Fighting Moves
Candidates against Hydreigon | |
---|---|
Breloom | Meowscarada (with Low Kick) |
Even though Hydreigon terastalizes into Steel type, it is weak to Fighting type, making it easier to deal with if you have a Pokemon with Fighting moves.
Fire Types With High Sp. Defense
Hydreigon has a wide range of effective moves, but it is difficult to inflict super-effective damage to Fire types. Sylveon is especially useful because it can force the player to choose between using Terastal or switching out.
