Strengths & How to Use
Force with unexpected firepower
The Choice Band style Dragonite 's Outrage has a firepower that not any Tank can resist, especially if there is no Fairy type in the opposng build, it could be the decisive blow to end the battle. And it is also excellent that Multiscale almost guarantees the first action of Dragonite.
Extreme Speed, a fast move with high firepower
Extreme Speed has a higher priority than other Fast Moves. The combination of Choice Band and Normal Tera type, makes Extreme Speed a powerful move. After slightly reducing the opponent's HP, it is possible to defeat the opponent only with the fast move, Extreme Speed.
Strong against Pokemon with Ability "Unaware"
Unlike Dragonite stacking Dragon Dance, this CB style Dragonite is strong against Pokemon with Ability "Unaware". This Dragonite's Outrage is so powerful that even those Tanks such as Skeledirge and Dondozo, which have EVs for HP and Def, cannot resist it.
Things to Keep in Mind
Outrage gives your opponent a chance
Outrage is powerful, but has the disadvantage of not being able to freely choose next actions until it becomes confused. It is a chance for Mimikyu to stack Swords Dance, so it'd be better to have a Pokemon with "Unaware" that can ignore the effects of Stat boost moves, and a Physical Tank Pokemon such as Hippowdon with EVs for HP and Def in your team at the same time.
Beware of "Will-O-Wisp" and other Status Effects
Since it is not a style focusing on Speed, there is a possibility that it may receive Status Effects from a Durability strengthening Rotom, or from a Breloomn, which has been enhanced to its fastest Speed. Especially, be careful of Burns, which will not only make Multiscale ineffective, but will also greatly reduce the offensive power.
Be cautious when facing Hippowdon
This style of Dragonite can defeat Hippowdon with two shots of Outrage, but in that case you must be prepared to be put to sleep by the opponent's Yawn. It is important to consider which is worse, allowing the opposing Hippowdon to have next move or letting Dragonite sleep.
Pokemon Team Compositions
Pokemon | Reason |
---|---|
Dondozo | If [Outrage] is nullified by Fairy type, you have no choice but to switch out due to the disadvantage of [Choice Band]. [Unaware] Dondozo is a good match for this situation, as it can ignore the effect of "Swords Dance" and other Stat boost moves. |
Corviknight | All the styles of Dragonite are weak against Fairy type, especially Mimikyu. Corviknight can help to deal with them using [Taunt] and [Iron Defense]. |
Weaken all the opposing Pokemon in Pivot Battles
The ideal situation for Dragonite is able to defeat all of the opponent's Pokemon within the damaging range of Extreme Speed, and if you can use Stealth Rock or Yawn to force your opponent to switch Pokemon and weaken them all, you can easily create the ideal situation. It is also recommended to have Pokemon on the team that is effective against Steel type Pokemon, which are difficult to deal damage with Extreme Speed.
Other Suggestions
Suggested Tera Types
Type | Reason |
---|---|
Increases the power of [Outrage]. But note that Outrage comes with the risks mentioned above. |
Suggested Moves
Move | Reason |
---|---|
Thunder Punch | Use against Dodonzo. [Outrage] inflicts more damage, but considering the possibility that the opponent might switch to Mimikyu, it is an option when you need a super effective move. |
