Strengths & How to Use

Take advantage of high Attack Stat

Breloom's Attack Stat is high at 130, the same as Garchomp and Scizor, and its Ability "Technician" can also increase the firepower of Bullet Seed, which allows you to build a hyper offense team. It is important to use Focus Sash and be aware of how to beat more than one Pokemon.

"Spore" may force your opponent to rebuild a team

Breloom has many weaknesses, but its move "Spore" can gain an advantage by putting the Pokemon that are slower than it to sleep. Just having Breloom it in your team makes the opponent difficult to choose a Pokemon that is weak against it.

The useful Fast Move "Mach Punch"

By using Mach Punch, Breloom can make a prior attack against opponents who are faster than it is. It can especially deal a lot of damage against Hydreigon and the Pokemon that terastalizes into Steel-type. When Breloom's remaining HP is low, you can decide whether to run out its HP or keep it alive by switching it, depending on the situation.

Things to Keep in Mind

Note that if your opponent uses a move to switch to the Pokemon that is immune to Spore

Since Breloom with Focus Sash is a well-known build, many players deal with it by using U-turn to diable Focus Sash and switch to the Pokemon that is immune to Spore, such as Gholdengo. This is a common move, especially in the Lead, so be careful.

Especially weak to Amoonguss

Amoonguss is also commonly used against Breloom. Even if your opponet's build focuses on Sp. Defense, it will still become against Breloom, so don't try to fight and switch to another Pokemon.

Some solutions are invisible

There are several ways to deal with Spore, such as Lum Berry, Substitute, and Terastalizing into Grass type. But they are hard to tell before the battle begins, it is important to predict when playing.

Pokemon Team Compositions

PokemonReason
Dragapult IconDragapultIt can halve Fire type damage and doubles the power of [Hex] on the target put to sleep with [Spore].
Mimikyu IconMimikyuWith the Ability "Disguise", it is able to have a similar effect as Focus Sash. Line up with the Focus Sash holding Breloom, it is one of the best choices for Duelist Builds.

Avoid the Pokemon that needs to be switched out

If Breloom takes any damage, it can't make a good use of Focus Sash. Therefore, you should build up it with those powerful Pokemon that don't need to be switched out.

Nature & EV Distribution

NatureEV/Reason
Adamant
(ATK⬆,SP. ATK⬇)
HP 4/ Atk 252/ Spe 252
The opponents that you can be prior to hit with Spore, will be less, but the Attack will be higher, making it easier to defeat opponents slower than itself. Also, the damage of [Mach Punch] will be also increased.
Adamant
(ATK⬆,SP. ATK⬇)
Atk 204/ Def 52/ Spe 252
It can adjust Breloom's stats to survive from two shots of [Mach Punch] when facing another Breloom, and be able to use two shots of [Mach Punch] to defeat a Breloom whose Atk and Spe are increased with EVs.

Suggested Tera Types

TypeReason
FightingThe damage of [Mach Punch] will be increased as it is the same type as the original type.
GroundTerastalizing into Ground type makes it easier to defeat Gholdengo using [Bulldoze]. Also, it is possible to forcibly disable the switch move "Volt Switch".

Suggested Moves

MoveReason
Rock TombA Rock Move with the same effect as [Bulldoze]. The template moveset is weak to Flying type, so if you want a Rock move that can exploit the weakness of Flying type, use this one.
Swords DanceIt can sharply raises your Attack and allows you to break through highly durable Pokemon which can resist damage repeatedly.
Close CombatA Fighting move that has lower priority, but is twice as powerful as [Mach Punch], should be used when you want to increase the damage of Fighting move.
