Strengths & How to Use

Strong against Pokemon with Focus Sash

A Dragapult with Life Orb+Adamant Nature stats is able to use Dragon Darts to take out a Focus Sash holding Meowscarada or Breloom with a single blow. If this Dragapult can hit a Pokemon with Focus Sash in the Lead, it is likely to take an advantage.

Terastalizes into Fire-type to eliminate the weakness.

If you use Dragapult in the Lead when facing an opponent with Choice Scarf, you need to consider the risk of being knocked down with a single blow due to the weakness. Terastalizing into Fire-type can reduce Dragapult's weakness damage to x1 or less, which allows it to resist the attacks exploiting its original weakness.

Use "U-turn" when you can't defeat the target

If you can't beat your opponent with Dragon Darts or Tera Blast, you can use U-turn, which allows you to change the Pokemon while inflicting damage repeatedly with the high speed. If you see Mimikyu or Azumarill on your opponent's selection screen, you should select another Pokemon to change with U-turn.

Things to Keep in Mind

Beware of the opponent's Dragapult

Even though the weakness can be eliminated by terastalizing, you should stay alert when facing another Dragapult. Depending on the opposing Dragapult's style, you may not be able to withstand its attacks even after terastalizing.

Be careful of the opposing Fairy Terastal

You definitely don't want to let your opponent hit you back with Fairy Terastal because you use Dragon Darts without Terastal. Even if the opponent is not a Fairy type, beware of Pokemon that may use Play Rough, Dazzling Gleam, Tera Blast, etc.

Pokemon Team Compositions

PokemonReason
Amoonguss IconAmoongussAn excellent choice for Dragapult's U-turn, easy to use as a swap when facing Mimikyu or Azumarill, and easy to hit back Gholdengo, which is commonly used against Amoonguss, with Dragapult's Fire Terastal.
Corviknight IconCorviknightIt has high durability and is resistant to Dragon and Fairy moves, which are often used to attack Dragapult. It is strong against durable Pokemon with Taunt, and easy to create a situation for switching in an Attacker with U-turn.
Azumarill IconAzumarillSince this style is not stable when facing another Dragapult, it'd be better to have a Fairy type to restrain the opposing Dragapult's Dragon Terastal. Azumarill meets the requirement and is also good at leading your opponent to choose Breloom.

Prepare a Pokemon to switch to if you use it as a Lead

The Dragapult used as a Lead is good at keeping an eye on the opponent, but it is also easy to be overwhelmed by the opponent's attacker, if you don't have a durable Pokemon as a swap. It is best to select a Pokemon to make up for Dragapult's weaknes in Pivot Battles.

Nature & EV Distribution

Adamant

HP 124 / Atk 252 / Def 36 / SpD 4 / Spe 92
If the Dragon type weakness is eliminated with Terastal, it can withstand the [Dragon Darts] by Choice Band Style Jolly Dragapult. But note that Speed is lower than the fastest Meowscarada and Maushold.
Jolly
(SPD⬆,SP. ATK⬇)
Atk 252 / Def 4 / Spe 252
It'd be easier to take the lead when facing another Dragapult by making it the fastest. But Meowscarada and Breloom, which you could definitively defeat with Adamant's [Dragon Darts], may no longer be defeated.

Suggested Abilities

AbilityReason
InfiltratorIf you don't encounter many Pokemon with the Ability, [Intimidate], or the moves that reduce your stats, this one is more effective than [Clear Body] in many situations.

Suggested Tera Types

TypeReason
DragonThis is for when you want to increase the damage of [Dragon Darts]. Effective against strong Physical Tank Pokemon such as Dondozo and Garganacl. If you terastalize into Dragon type, change [Tera Blast] to other move.
GhostBy changing Tera Blast into Ghost type, it will be able to use Physical Ghost type moves. Since Phantom Force is a bit hard to use, select it when you need Physical Ghost moves.

Suggested Moves

MoveReason
Dragon DanceTerastalizing into different type to eliminate the weakness allows you forcibly use Dragon Dance even in a disadvantageous situation.
CurseEffective against durable Pokemon that are difficult to break through, such as a [Iron Defense] stacking Garganacl or a [Curse] stacking Dondozo.
