Garganacl Review In Match Battles

  • Powerful combination of [Salt Cure] + [Recover].
  • Ability [Purifying Salt] nullifies Status Effects.
  • High durability and the weakness changing by Terastal.

▶Best Pokemon For Ranked Battles

Powerful in prolonged battles suitable for [Salt Cure]

Signature Move [Salt Cure]
The user salt cures the target, inflicting 1/8 of its maximum HP as damage every turn. (Steel and Water types are damaged 1/4 of its maximum HP)
The effect can be removed by switching out.
*Will not be removed when the user is switched out or the turns have passed.

The Signature move [Salt Cure] that combines Attack and Constant damage per turn, when with [Recover], is a powerful combination that can deal damage and restore HP at the same time.

Prevent Status Effects with Purifying Salt

Garganacl's Ability [Purifying Salt] can nullify Status Effects, giving it an advantage against Pokemon that use Status Moves such as Toxic and Thunder Wave.

Advantage and disadvantage are all due to Salt Cure

Garganacl relies on the constant damage from [Salt Cure] for most of the damage it inflicts, so it may lose the means of Attack as soon as the opponent uses Substitute or Covert Cloak.

Build Type

Strengths & How to Use

Blocks Attackers with High Durability

Garganacl has many desirable advantages for a durable Pokemon, such as high durability Stats, Recovery move, and immunity to Status Effects, making it possible to block some Attackers without any difficulty.

Iron Defense is powerful while being Terastalized

Changing type by Terastal is effective against opponents that try to exploit Garganacl's weakness. Terastalizing into Ghost type allows you to perform the combination of Iron Defense and Recover while eliminating the weakness of original type, making it extremely strong against Physical Attackers.

Halve Ghost Moves with [Purifying Salt]

Purifying Salt not only protects you from Status Effectsn but also halves the damage from Ghost moves. Terastalizing Garganacl into Ghost type makes it weak against only Dark type.

Pokemon Team Compositions

Meowscarada IconMeowscaradaBy using [Knock Off] to the opponent with [Choice Scarf] + [Trick] in advance, Garganacl will be less likely to be attacked by [Trick].
Hydreigon IconHydreigonThe opponent may choose a Ghost type against Garganacl's [Body Press], allowing Hydregon's [Dark Pulse] to deal super-effective damage to multiple opponents.

It is recommended to build with Pokemon that don't need Terastal

Terastalizing Garganacl from Rock type into other type makes it easier to withstand the opponent's attacks. It is best to use Terastal on Garganacl in combination with Pokemon that don't need Terastal.

Other Suggestions

Nature & EV Distribution

HP 252 / Def 4 / SpD 252
It'd be useful when you also want to be prepared to deal with Special Attackers, as Physical Durability may be excessive for some opponents.

Suggested Items Other Than [Leftovers]

Sitrus Berry IconSitrus BerryAn option when you want other Pokemon to hold the [Leftovers].

Suggested Tera Types

FlyingEffective against Dondozo and others that use [Fissure] against Garganacl. It can also halve Garganacl's weakness, Grass and Fighting type.

Suggested Moves

EarthquakeIt will be easier to break through [Covert Cloak] and [Substitute] which are used against [Salt Cure]. And it is effective against Gholdengo and Skeledirge.
CurseThe damage from [Salt Cure] can be expected to increase. Also, if you use it while being terastalized into Ghost type, it will become a Ghost type [Curse], making it effective against opponents with [Substitute].
ProtectAble to have one more turn to earn the constant damage from [Salt Cure] and the recovery from [Leftovers].

Ghost types with Covert Cloak, which has a Recovery move, can be sent out after Garganacl because they won't be affected by both the constant damage of Garganacl's Salt Cure and the damage of Body Press.

Special Attacker with High Firepower

Candidates Against Garganacl

Garganacl has a lower Sp. Defense than Defense and has no moves to increase Sp. Defense, so it is easier to break through by continuing to attack with Choice Specs.
