Strengths & How to Use
High Sp. Defense and Flexibility
Sylveon has a high Sp. Defense, so it can be used against Pokemon that mainly use Special Attack moves. In duelist battles, Sylveon is flexible to set up with Protect and Yawn first, or attack after stacking Calm Mind.
A setup Pokemon that is not likely to give the opponent chance
Hyper Voice is a sound-based move that can inflict damage through the opponent's Substitute, which is usually used against Yawn, but it doesn't work against Sylveon as it is able to block the opponent's setup.
Things to Keep in Mind
Beware of Dragon's Fire, Poison, and Steel Terastal
Dragon type, which is weak against Fairy type, may terastalize into Fire, Poison, or Steel type. If the opponent becomes Fire Tera type, you can use Yawn to deal with it, but in the case of Poison or Steel Tera type, Sylveon may be knocked down by a single blow, so be careful.
The disadvantage of bypassing the Substitute
Hyper Voice can bypass the opponent's Substitute and deal damage, but the Substitute will be left. If Sylveon fails to defeat an opponent who uses Substitute, the other allies will have to fight an opponent with Substitute remaining, so be careful of an opponent who combines Substitute with Steel and Poison Terastal.
Pokemon Team Compositions
Pokemon | Reason |
---|---|
Magnezone | It can reduce the damage from Poison and Steel types, which are Sylveon's weaknesses, to less than half. And it is easy to use [Volt Switch] in combination with pivots. |
Skeledirge | The ability, Unaware, can deal with the Attackers that stacks stat boost. And the high physical durability can also make up for Sylveon. |
Other Suggestions
Nature & EV Distribution
Nature | EV/Reason |
---|---|
Bold (DEF⬆,ATK⬇) | HP 244 / Def 252 / Spe 12 The highest defense durability and the speed that exceeds the Tyranitar without EVs, making it easier to be the swap against Physical Attacker. |
Suggested Moves
Move | Reason |
---|---|
Baton Pass | It can pass the stat change of [Calm Mind] that is used against the opposing Special Attacker as a setup. And, if Sylveon switches out with [Baton Pass] after being attacked, you can safely transfer the stat change to the next Pokemon. |
Psyshock | It can be used as an Attack against Pokemon with high Sp. Defense. But it is unable to defeat Toxapex and Chansey without stacking [Calm Mind] multiple times. |
Substitute | A way to deal with the Status Effects for Sylveon itself. It'd be effective if you use [Yawn] to force the opponent to switch out, and wait for the opportunity to use Substitute. |
