Strengths & How to Use
Exhaust the opponents in Pivots and defeat them all at once
The basic stategy is to let Palafin out as the Lead, use Flip Turn, and switch out to change its form. After transforming, take advantage of its high Attack and slightly higher durability in Pivot Battles, it is powerful to defeat the opponents with Jet Punch or Wave Crash after their HP are reduced.
Wave Crash is extremely powerful
Only Dragon, Grass, and Water types can halve Water type moves, and few Pokemon can withstand Palafin's Wave Crash after its transformation. Depending on the situation, you may win the battle simply by using Wave Crash repeatedly.
Things to Keep in Mind
The actions are fixed, making it easy for the opponents to predict
Palafin is almost always put in the Lead for transformation. The opponent selects the team expecting that you will have Palafin in the Lead, so it is important to be further ahead of the opponent and have a Pokemon ready to take turns even if the opponent is trying to take the advantage.
Need to exhaust the opponents when using in Pivot Battles
After terastalizing into Water type, Wave Crash can deal a lot of damage against Pokemon that didn't enhance their durability with EVs. However, it is difficult to defeat a Pokemon that has high durability or can halve Water type moves, so it is best to reduce their HP in advance in Pivot Battles.
Easy to be withstood by Toxapex
No other moves than Outrage, can do much damage to Toxapex. Therefore, keep in mind that you may have a very hard time against a team including Toxapex and Fairy type Pokemon.
Pokemon Team Compositions
Pokemon | Reason |
---|---|
Clodsire | It'd be stable to have a Pokemon with [Unware] that can ignore the opposing [Stats boosting Attacker]. And Ground type Clodsire is immune to Electric type which is Palafin's weakness. |
Dragapult | A high Speed Attacker that can defeat the [Stat boosting Attacker] in the Lead. And it is a Dragon type Pokemon that can halve Water and Grass moves which are Palafin's weaknesses. |
Need a Pivot to deal with the high Speed opponent in the Lead
When building this style of Palafin, it is important to beaware of Meowscarada or Rotom with Choice Scarf. Especially, if the opponent uses Volt Switch in the Lead, you may lose the initiative, so it is necessary to prepare a Pokemon that can nullify Electric moves as a Pivot.
Other Suggestions
Suggested Moves
Move | Reason |
---|---|
Close Combat | A high fire Fighting move against Water types. There is a low chance to defeat a Dondozo holding [Leftovers] with two shots. But note that the damage will be halved by Toxapex. |
Outrage | A high firepower Dragon move that is effective against Toxapex, but beware that you may lose due to the confusion and this move is non-effective to Fairy types. |
